Default Ubuntu 9.10

All this Windows 7 talk warrants a Ubuntu thread!!

So far so good. I like the new changes, and defaulting to ext4 is nice.

I'm not having the best luck with 9.10. It's not quite an out of the box install like 9.04. It boots slower, grub is slower. I was booting my netbook within 20 secs, but with 9.10 it's more like 50 secs now. The netbook is turning into Windows/Mac OS.

Hmm, I don't notice any of that... Then again, I'm on a normal laptop.

What I have noticed are some issues with 64bit Flash from Adobe which were not present before.

Have to try out 9.10. Might have beet automated luck than I did when 9.04 server and workstation.

The older version screwed up the raid set name during an automated update. And did it several times when I tried reloading and performing another automated update. Not encouraging when the RAID chip was only a simple on board Intel chipset RAID.

But otherwise I like Ubuntu.

I'm on 9.10 and it's working great. The answer to 64bit flash is:

I was having my issues with the 64bit flash, and when I moved to 32bit flash my issues went away... I didn't remove all of those packages, but then again I just installed 64bit flash from the start without installing all that other crap.

I'll purge those files and see if it helps, but it's working fine with the 32bit version right now.

Oh, I'm also using Chromium browser and not FF anymore. The build I have is 32 bit, so I'm going to stay with the 32bit flash plugin.

"With Linux you don't worry so much about the boot times because you only need to reboot once every two years or so, unlike three or four times a day with Windows."
Rofl. Depends on what you're doing.
