A couple of things:

There is a chance that SB357 won't pass Assembly. It could be perceived as 'too extreme' by purported 'middle of the roaders'. (Remember, even then-Gov. Gray Davis had called for a moratorium on new gun laws awhile back so there could be a degree of moderation.

SB357 (ammo marking) could've been conceived as a stalking horse for AB352 (microstamping on semiautos) - that is, SB357 is designed to be so bad that AB352 is a refuge; "at least I didn't vote for SB357" to the progunners and "I voted for AB352" to the antis.

Gov Schwarzenegger has vetoed several gun control bills, only voting for the AB50 50BMG ban. I think he's 1 for 4 (1 for 3 or 5??? - can't remember). The 50BMG was just too scary and getting too much bad press to vote against, while a vote against stuff like SB357 can be couched in terms like "too bureaucratic", "inneffectual" and "budget buster".

Yes, keep the letters coming, esp to Gov's office.

While Gov's office really officially won't look at pro/con letters for SB357 til September time frame, the fact that letters are coming in on that subject now must actually register.
If you're mailing letters now, remember to send them again when the bill is going to be up for his consideration...

Letters sent to all on Public Safety Committee as well as my local representative. I agree with Bill. Letters carry more weight. Let's flood the Capitol with letters against SB 357!!!

I agree, IF they pass. At the present it is a little premature to write Schwarzenneger.

The political weight of one written letter is worth around 10 X what an email is.

Can't hurt to email but the job ain't done til you write.

Write multiple times, too. If you have the spare $$, send it Priority Mail registered/certified: cheaper than overnight but still gets attention.

I really think we'll be better off burying the Governor's office in letters. I'd bet money that both AB352 and SB357 will pass... they already have in their own houses.

Write everyone if you have the time and stamps. But if you're only going to write once, write Schwarzenneger. There's a lot more chance that he'll veto these than the chance that the Socialists might not pass them.

hey all here is a link to send an e-mail to to all reps in your area and the Governors office. A written letter may mean more but maybe enough e-mails will make the difference.

Thank you for posting this. I had been looking for an easy way to find all kinds of info on our reps, and this is it. I am getting busy writing handwritten letters TODAY.
