Default SOLD: S&W Model 19-2 Combat Magnum

Helping a friend sell this. I will put the prospective buyer in touch with him directly to finalize all the details.

This is a S&W Model 19-2 Combat Magnum (.357 Magnum) from 1962, serial number K490XXX in excellent condition with original Goncalo Alves checkered target grips. There are distinct, presumable police inventory markings as seen in the pic, but it is unknown what city or department owned it.

The gun also comes with a recent research letter from the Smith and Wesson Historical Archive indicating the history and lineage of the Model 19 in general as well as information on the initial sale of this particular revolver to a Florida gun shop back in Jan 1963. Letter is signed by Roy Jinks, Chief Historian for S&W.

$550 OBO. PPT in or around Laguna Beach area.

First "I'll take it" gets it or PM an offer I can pass along.

Very nice unit, dirty doggone shame it's in SoCal. From the stampings in one of the photos I am assuming an agency issue?

Well, researching this gun seemed to be futile.

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-rev...el-19-2-a.html

LOL.

A few interesting things, it does seem to be either refinished by S&W or specified by the PD on the order. The finish seems to be the matte finish found on the Highway Patrolmans instead of the polished blue finish usually on Model 19s.

Has your friend pulled the grips off? Sometimes the PD stamp is on the frame grip.

Free bump!

Haven't thought to ask him. I will.

The letter from S&W indicates it was sold to a miami gun shop directly from the factory, not sure where the inventory markings would have come from, or when.

ETA: I posted that on the S&W forum before he decided to write to S&W directly and have them research it. I just e-mailed him to ask him to remove the grips and see if anything is under there. Thanks for the tip.

I doubt its a factory refinish, they never blued the trigger and hammer, those should be color case hardened.

I doubt he can ship, that piece isn't going to be on roster.

If it was factory refinished there will be extra stampings under the grips. If it was done third party, then there would be nothing. Quite correct on the hammer and trigger finish as being "non-standard". Since it was in Florida, and has those stampings on the frame,I am guessing the department refinished it for corrosion resistance. The gun definitely pre-dates the introduction of the Model 66 by many years. What is interesting is that there is almost no wear visible on the trigger, while there is expected hoster wear at the muzzle.

This one has a potentially interesting story. It'd be cool to get it all sorted out.

The stamped numbers may be from an investigation file number. Once upon a time departments sold firearms after the case closed. The good old days of dirty air and lots of salmon in the crick, then came well.
Nice to see a 19-2. I am totally aching with desire.
