Wow! another fellow Burner... if you make it out to the desert again I'll have to invite you for a congratulatory daddy drink. I work for the BRC Fire Dept. out there. I've been going since 2000. Did you make it out this year? It was good times!

Congrats on the future addition!

Burners and guns go hand in hand. It amazes me sometimes how few of us there are here on CalGuns.

Hey Turby,

Was someone from the BLM supposed to come out and pick up the pile? I went back today and the cleanup pile is still there.

I finished off the one pumpkin that was out on the far hill

No surprise...seems to be the vibe out there. It's like taking your kid to Disneyland only you're the kid...and it's not packed with people taking pictures and waiting in lines...and it involves guns.

Yes - I emailed the rangers last week to inquire how the pickup went. I haven't heard back from them yet. I'll chase again this week if I don't hear anything by, say, Wednesday.

Thanks for the field report, though! Did you see any extra trash dumped out there not in our pile or was it still otherwise pretty clean?

And I presume the Fish & Game guy was gone?

Yea, the fish & game guy was gone. There was a target stand that i didn't see the first time near the THIRD gate, but it looked in decent order.

One more time... The 1st gate in just off Panoche Rd. When you enter. The 2nd is 3 miles up and the 3rd is at the top of the hill, 4 miles up. Can't Calgunners count? Or do they count the gates as they are leaving.
I mean, seriously, Don't they see the 6" yellow bars holding the 10' yellow gates that they drive through to get there?
For Gods' sakes, How can they see the target? I'm not sure I want to shoot with the vision impared. (blind)
Sorry, but...
I've explained this I don't know how many times before. I just don't understand how so many people miss 2, 10' x 4' bright yellow gates.
It is kind of important. If you are caught shooting at the first gate, You will be cited and your guns impounded. It is private property. No shooting is allowed until you pass the 2nd gate. This is the beginning of the BLM land. If any Rangers happen to read that you were shooting at the 1st gate, You may recieve a visit from them asking a few questions.
The 3rd gate is where we shoot during the fire season, Because it is locked. If you find the 4th gate, you are going onto a ranch. But you probably won't make it that far back.

OK, SO I exasterated abit. But you have to admit, It was funny, huh..

The gate numbers don't matter. You know its safe to shoot when you come up on a gate that's riddled with bullet holes!

Overall directions to Panoche are terrible. It's the Shields Road Exit from I5, I don't know why all the directions say Mercy Hot Springs (the exit has a name and Little Panoche Road has a name!). The main road is also called Panoche Access Road. It's in my Navigation and comes up easy when you search for the intersection of Little Panoche Rd and Panoche Access Road.

I think the reason people find it so hard is that they are worried about getting into trouble for shooting on private land and then psyche themselves out and then it just goes downhill from there.

Whenever I get directions to places like panoche I actually look at the google map/satellite/street view, which I don't think most people do, this would answer a lot of questions.

The confusion comes from Mercy Hot Springs. Once you take the Shields Exit (from the north) if you turn left and go over the freeway it becomes Shields Road. If you turn right it becomes Little Panoche Road. If you follow Little Panoche Road and pass Panoche Access road will drive right by the Mercy Hot Springs Resort area.

Once you turn on the Panoche Access road the first gate is right at the bottom, gate two can get lost. Gate three (the one shot to crap and laying on the ground is at the very top of the hill. Once you pass gate three you are in the area that gets closed during the fire season.

Maybe instead of calling it gate 1, 2, & 3 we should refer to it as "The gate at the top of the hill."

I dunno, I read Bob's explanation and it makes perfect sense to me!

Update - the rangers didn't get a chance to pick up the trash last week, so they'll probably be out there this week.

They also asked me if we filled in the sign up sheet - DOH! I forgot to ask people to sign in. Send me a PM with the following info if you volunteered:

Name
Address
Phone #
Email address

Understand that this is sensitive information, so I will let you know that this is ONLY to be used to record volunteer information, it helps us show and demonstrate public interest in our BLM lands. So... send me a PM!!

Turby, it's clear to see you haven't met nagorb. Meet him and you'll understand.

I signed in when I got there but the form only asked for zip code, how many in party, number of visits this year, and purpose of visit. I did leave a comment about calguns clean up.

I thought he was pretty cool. But I only a hugs from women, Sorry.
Anyways, How did this go from gates to directions? The 1st gate is the first gate you drive through, The 2nd gate is the second gate you drive through, Etc. Etc.
How many rounds are in your mag? Is it chambered? Are you pointing it in a safe direction? Is the 3rd gate you drive through the first gate? Jeeze.
What's scary is that it is NOT only one or two people.....It's half a dozen!
(that means 6) Check Please! Even after 2 pints of tequila, I can still count to 3. 1,2,3. See, I did it! I guess I should open the 3rd pint. Or is that the first....Guess I should start over. I'm opening the first pint, Goodnight!

The DOJ knows that two guys with semi autos that have a folding or collapsable stock, or pistol grip could take out California's entire police force, SWAT, and the National Guard. Jeeze, that pistol grip and stock are really dangerous...
