Default CD vs DVD + R question

Can I record music on a DVD + R disc? I have been using CD - RW discs. Will the DVD + R disc play in most players if I can record music on it?

Can your DVD player read data files?

Soory, I see my error. If I record music only on a DVD + R disc, can an ordinary CD player play it? Like the one in my car?

Generally no. Some in dash decks will read MP3 or other music files from a DVD or CD media. There is no in dash deck that I'm aware of that will read .CDA (the format for raw CD audio tracks) on a DVD media. It would be easier to rip to a lossless format to an iPod or other music player and pipe it into the deck.

When you say record music you mean transfer them from CD to WMA or MP3 files, correct? If your car can read or play DVD data files, just record your music files (WMA or MP3) to DVD as data files. My car OEM stereo cannot read DVD data files but can read/play CD data files. So it really depends on your car or home stereo player.

Thanks guys. I have a stack of 500 DVD +R discs, and no CD RW discs left. I want to make a few CD's for this weekend at the pool and the Jeep. Guess I get to make a trip to PC Warehouse.

I now burn all my music to data cd's. Avg size of a mp3 file is about 4mb / 650mb for a cd = 162 songs per cd x 6 for multiple disk player = 972 tunes to go not bad for old cd technology. Im gonna makesure my next car stereo can read/play DVD data.
