Default Poll: What do you lube your pistols with, greas or oil?

Hello Everyone,

I have been using BreakFree CLP on my pistols (mostly SIGs) for the last five years. I hear master pistolsmiths like Bruce Gray say that grease is a better lubricant and will extend the service life of a pistol. What do you think of this? What do you use?

It depends on the pistol. My Sigs rails get grease, internal parts get oil. The .22 adapter gets oil.

The oil vs. grease debate is akin to the 1911 vs. Glock, Chevy vs. Ford. I use the breakfree CLP, Otis CLP and have heard that the Remoil is very good at staying where you put it. Since I use oil, I tend to reapply as required based on a visual inspection of how much remains on the firearm.

Break Free CLP,But I actually let it cure for 2 hours like it recommends for maximum lubrication. Works great.

I've switched to grease. The condition of my surplus Swiss weapons convinced me. They even grease the bores for storage.

Oil during break in. Then I switch to grease on the rails, bushing (if applicable) and a thin coat on top of the barrel. Break Free or Weapons Shield CLP everywhere else. The key to using grease is to match the grease to the temperature. The colder the weather the thinner the grease.

Deja vu, again?

If it slides, grease it; if it rotates, oil it.

You have to lubricate a Glock? A light spray of One Lube seems to do the trick nicely...but then I use that stuff for everything....

Since you mention SIGs, Bruce has probably shot more rounds through Sigs than everyone that's posted in thread, combined...

He's a GM level shooter.. He's a reknown gunsmith with Sigs pistols.. He has a great relationship with SigArms.. Seriously, Bruce knows his stuff. I think if he recommends grease for the rails, it's probably a solid bit of advice.

Short of being an engineer for Sig, I dont know anyone else who's as more an expert on sig pistols than him.. I would much rather heed his advice on the care and maintenance of Sig pistols over anyone on Calguns or Sigforum for that matter.

Mostly FP-10. I also use a mixture of Lithium grease and FP-10 in certain areas.
