Unhappy California 380's

I am having a hard time looking for one. Not only is 380 ammo damn near impossible to find but so are california legal 380's. Keltec' s are out and so is the lcp and that new Sig. What are some good options under $500? Or should I just give up and get something else?
God I want a p3at or lcp...

Under $500? CZ83, Bersa Thunder 380, both are very good. If you are lucky, you might be able to find a Sig P230/232 or a German Walther PPK. Stay away from PPK built by S&W.

I have a Sig Sauer p232. Great gun but cost around $900.00. You are better off saving up and buying a good .380. I ccw with mine when I travel and I love it.

Very accurate and reliable. Much better then KelTec in my not so humble opinion!

All .380's from the Roster, today.
I think we'll all pretty much agree the Calif. roster, along with loaded chamber indicators, and magazine disconnects are (insert your desired adjectives).

wow...uh thank you...
i think this conversation has been completed...
Thats only 8 different models though! CA sucks!
I dont like the beretta, the sig and walther cost too much, the hi point is scrap metal.
Don't know bout the others yet, but im pretty sure they are too expensive.
Bersa Thunder looks like the only option to me i guess...damn!

There's a Beretta 380 - Model 84? 86?, I believe. It's like a small 92.
One variant has a tip-up barrel - this is useful for those who don't have arm/hand strength.

Browning issued these under their own name, calling it the BDA 380.

No, I don't have one, I have seen and handled them at a couple Gun Shows.
Nothing exotic, but it also did not appear to be junk either.
???
Just an option...

I suggest keeping your eye on the for sale section for an LCP .380, even if it's used it probably won't have been shot much. They get carried a lot and shot very little. It's not something you want to shoot more than enough to prove it's reliable and to know what to expect. To sum it up...OUCH!

The accutek looks nice, but is pretty heavy (which might mean its well made) and I don't think I would want to carry a cocked and locked pistol in my pocket.

There is a LCP for sale now, but I'm going to pay $600 for a $200 gun.

I have fired the Sig 232 - awesome pistol. Probably worth the $ in this day and age. There are non roster 380's that can be found around the State - some very nice ones - you just need to do PPT...

thanks for the info. I've got the standand kit and It worked pretty good for quickly sorting the brass. I hadn't run into much .380, so I didn't spend the money on the .380 plate. Sounds like the .020" difference between .380 and 9mm must be so close that even the aluminum plate can't separate them.

What happens, the .380 doesn't go through it, or it can't keep the 9mm from going through as well?

+1 on that. I have a little over 500 rounds thru my Bersa Thunder and works great. They can be a little finicky with certain types of ammo, but I've only had prob's with the flat nose Magtech ammo. Everything else I've ran thru worked perfectly.

Does anyone know why we cannot get the Glock 25 or 28 in this state? I am assuming it is because no 10 round mags are made is this the case?

You can't get a .380 Glock into CA because they aren't even importable into the country. Due to the caliber, they don't earn enough importation points and are basically considered Saturday Nights Specials.

I think there may be a LE-exemption with regards to federal importation, so there may be an angle to eventually see a small number of .380 glocks in the wild.

Yes...

Get a Makarov.

Good Bulgarian specimens can be found between $250 and $350, they're on the approved list, Wolf makes ammo for them (so it's cheap, and not too complicated to find) and they're very well built weapons, considering how small they are. If you find one at a good price, get it...

If you find two at a good price, let me know via PM. My gun safe needs one too...

380 will not go through. I bought the plate as well and it is useless unless you are sortijng 380 from a smaller caliber. You could just use the 9MM sorter for that.

Did you call the MFG and talk to them about it?

My Bersa Thunder 380 has about 300 rounds through it with flawless operation. Mine was $259.00 + tax NIB. I am happy with it and it is NOT the piece of junk many would have you believe that it is. The double action trigger pull on my Bersa is infinately better than that on my friend's pre Smith & Wesson Walther PPK/s. You can't go wrong with the price; the only trouble is trying to find one for sale!! The last time at the range, I was able to place 4" groups at 25 yards with mine. Not great accuracy, but pretty good for a belly gun.

Might see if you can find one of these.
+1.

I've got a handful of .380s - P3AT, AMT Backup, PPK/S, and Makarov, and the Makarov is far and away the best of the bunch, at least for me. Ultra-reliable, accurate even with the springy trigger, simple and sturdy - it's a great shooter.

A Makarov in 9x18 is good too, but there's a lot more ammo choice in .380, and you only drop about 5-10% in muzzle energy.

I would definitely go for the Bersa 380. It's cheap, but it's a well made gun.
