Greetings all. I was just informed that a friend of the family is very ill and needs to sell off some guns. I am looking for input on his prices (under/ over priced), if I was to get any, which & what order and finally if anyone is interested in the others. Obviously I would like a good deal but don't want to cheat him. The list is;
1. Winchester 30-30 rifle - $130.00
2. Ruger 10/22 Manlicher(sp?) - $150.00
3. S&W mdl 66 - $250.00
4. Ruger Blackhawk .44 mag, old style, no bar guard, factory special, 5" bbl, brass frame, walnut grips - $500.00
5. Colt government .380 w/ 3 mags - $250.00
My wife got the info for me and this is what they were described as. All are new or like new and he is the original owner. Any input would be appreciated. FYI, I am looking hard at the 10/22, Colt and Ruger. Thanks, Brian

2. Ruger 10/22 Manlicher(sp?) - $150.00
$200 Minimum
3. S&W mdl 66 - $250.00
$300 Minimum
4. Ruger Blackhawk .44 mag, old style, no bar guard, factory special, 5" bbl, brass frame, walnut grips - $500.00

5. Colt government .380 w/ 3 mags - $250.00
$400 or more depending on the serial number...

If in doubt go buy a Bluebook... and go over those prices with the family so everyone is on the same page, so to speak, and everyone will feel good about the transaction.

If he needs the money fast that is worth money in itself and the prices aren't that far off. With some help from this board as Black Majik seems willing to do you may fare better. I had a minute and did some research for you.
Winchester
Mod 66
.380
Ruger

-toolman9000 </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I think getting a blue book is the best thing you could do as per Toolmans advice. You should not go by blue book alone as it is only a guide and gun prices are regional especially with certain handguns in CA but it helps alot.

If the Winchester is a pre 64 model in good shape $130 is way too low. If it is modern version especially with hunting dings I would say the price is not too out of line as a new one can be bought at Bolsa gunsmithing in Westminster in the low $200's range.

The Ruger manlicher stocked International version I think the old versions can go for around $500. New modern ones can be had for the mid $200 dollar mark also.

S&W 66 seems a little low especially for California but a standard 4" police trade in in decent shape could probably be found for $250-300. I have not priced them lately in California, I generally do not like S&W K frame magnums but my dad did get the fixed sight version of the 66, the 65, for $129 last year but I realize that was a steal. I would be willing to pay a little more for a 2 1/2" 66 but I don't know about anyone else.

Blackhawk seems about right but I do not really keep up with the prices on these, especially the old models. I would research this one much more fully due to the special features.

Colt 380 is underpriced especially for California, I would say $400 is about right, if under $400 would sell fairly quickly and over 500 would take a while to find a buyer.

See if the seller would maybe do a package deal with you and I'm sure if you decline to buy these guns your fellow calguns.net buddies would not mind a crack at them! I sure would not mind the Colt or the Ruger!

Wow, thanks to all for the info...I saw the same auctions that were posted as well. I talked to the wife (she is the best by the way) and I think for now I am going to buy all five guns. I'll figure out which I want to keep and then sell the rest. I'm pretty sure I will keep the Colt, but I have a 686 and really don't do a lot of wheel gun shooting. So, the Ruger and Smith will probably be sold. Hopefully, we can keep them in Cali! I will keep the board posted and list them as soon as I get my end of the deal situated. Thanks again for the help fellas.
