Default Pics from coyote trip turned squirrel plinking.

Coyote trip turned squirrel plinking

Bambam-31 and I went to Solvang to do some coyote calling, and two come in, didn't get either of em'. So, as the day got warmer, we ended up ended up just going for squirrels instead.

Best shot of the day was Rich w/ his Kimber .45. Squirrel just stood there, staring at us. Then....

Definitely a fun day, despite not bagging either of the yotes we saw (I missed the first one, the second one dove into a storm drain before we could gets sights on it). Still sore as hell, too. Hiking up hilly terrain w/ gear ain't easy.

Good thing we brought more than just our rifles, eh?

Do you guys eat them, or leave them to rot? I shot and ate a squirrel when I was 12, and that was the last one I shot. I never saw the point in killing them for sport.

Thanks guys.

I'm still partially deaf in my left ear, it echos a bit after I took shot #3 without hearing protection.

Gotta give credit to Mike for driving, I counted being awake for 42 hours (Fri-Sunday), I could only imagine he's been awake for similiar.

Mike's King of the Hill.

Our coyote calling is improving, we're actually luring them in. I gotta say, also thanks to Cavtrooper for his clinic. I learned a lot, and we're slowly starting to see some progress.

Good job. I will be holding a coyote help clinic shortly after I move. I will keep all those interested informed. I also will serve some venison and coyote steaks for those attending.

They were close, first one was probably 5 yards if that. 2nd was slightly farther, maybe 7-8 yards or so.

Mike shot his out of a tree with his GP100! (perfectly parallel, not pointed upwards)

Good job! I got asked to control 525 acres this weekend near my house on a property with a castle on it. I hope to shoot some to protect the calves on his property.

Richard,

What rifle were you shooting? BB31 looks like he was toting a CZ 452 trainer. Doesn't he have a Baer also? It seems like he has excellent taste all around.

Hey Christian, It's a Remington 700 VSF, BO mounts and rings, w. Mark 4 chambered in .223.

BB31 does indeed have a Baer as well, a Supertac 1.5"

I didn't know lead-free ammunition was made in .45ACP. Solvang is in the condor zone.

FYI Corbon has two loads for .45 ACP that are certified by the State of California to be lead free:

185 gr. +p with a Barnes XPB at 1075 fps
160 gr. with a Barnes XPB at 1050 fps

But what I need is something for my .303 Brit Enfield and/or my 7.62x54r Mosin Nagant. . .
