Default Carry laws and regulations

Since we have this great new forum and we all know that the first thing that we are going to see are a lot of questions like: "How do I get a CCW?" and "What are the laws regulating carrying guns?"

I thought that I would post these links to California gun laws so that peoplle could find them easily and answer a lot of their initial questions:

12050 thru 12054 Licenses to Carry Pistols and Revolvers
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/12050.php

12020 thru 12040 Unlawful Carrying and Possession
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/12020.php

12010 thru 12012 Prohibited Armed Persons File
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/12010.php

Kern County is one of several which maintain the 'official' application form on line, a .pdf.

DOJ also has the fees (part of CCR) pdf

Quote:
4006. CCW Fees.
As authorized pursuant to subdivision (a) of section 12054 of the Penal Code, the Firearms Division fees for licenses to carry concealed weapons (CCW) are as follows:

(a)(1) Initial fee for 90 day employment CCW license: $22
(2) Renewal fee for 90 day employment CCW license: $22

(b)(1) Initial fee for 2 year resident CCW license: $44
(2) Renewal fee for for 2 year resident CCW license: $44

(c)(1) Initial fee for 3 year judicial CCW license: $66
(2) Renewal fee for 3 year judicial CCW license: $66

(d)(1) Initial fee for 4 year reserve peace officer CCW license: $88
(2) Renewal fee for 4 year reserve peace officer CCW license: $88
And then 12054 says
Quote:
12054. (a) Each applicant for a new license or for the renewal of a license shall pay at the time of filing his or her application a fee determined by the Department of Justice not to exceed the application processing costs of the Department of Justice for the direct costs of furnishing the report required by Section 12052. After the department establishes fees sufficient to reimburse the department for processing costs, fees charged shall increase at a rate not to exceed the legislatively approved annual cost-of-living adjustments for the department's budget. The officer receiving the application and the fee shall transmit the fee, with the fingerprints if required, to the Department of Justice. The licensing authority of any city, city and county, or county may charge an additional fee, in an amount equal to the actual costs for processing the application for a new license, excluding fingerprint and training costs, but in no case to exceed one hundred dollars ($100), and shall transmit the additional fee, if any, to the city, city and county, or county treasury.
See if your issuing authority is using this fee list! Fun for the whole family!

Web site links for Sheriffs are at these pages:

http://www.calsheriffs.org/sheriffs_office_a_l.htm
http://www.calsheriffs.org/sheriffs_office_m_r.htm
http://www.calsheriffs.org/sheriffs_office_s_z.htm

For example, San Bernardino Sheriff says
Quote:
Fee Schedule

Code:
Initial Applicant Renewal
Business (90 days) $78.00 Business (90 days) $30.00
Regular (2 year) $100.00 Regular (2 year) $52.00
Judicial (3 year) $122.00 Judicial (3 year) $74.00
Reserve (4 year) $144.00 Reserve (4 year) $96.00
Additional Fee:
The Sheriff's Office Processing/Training Fee is $240.
So, SBSO IS following (I think) - their fees do not exceed the DOJ fee by $100, and the training and fingerprint fees are extra.

Unless there is some way to amend a bill so you would support it,
the details do not matter until the Governor signs or allows the bill to become law.

Ask CA law questions in the How CA Laws Apply to/Affect Me Forum
- most questions that start 'Is it legal ...' go there.
