Grafting a carry handle onto it:

And a Cmore scope on top of that:

With a longer extended rail, I could put my Eotech up front. Man, I really need that railed handguard, so I can add a laser, a flashlight, some pepper spray, a Taser, a duct tape dispenser...

Are you going to get one of those A2 picatinny rails so you can hang every conceivable "tactical" device out there for your SU-16?

Don't forget the dual mag coupler! Once you're done, your "tactical" SU-16 should weigh about 20 pounds...

I find that wrapping the duct tape around my head works just fine, and it is always at hand when I need it

Yes, it's completely impractical, silly, and a goof. There's some conceivable utility for a carry handle on a slingless gun, but the A2 sight is way too high, any optics mounts on top of it are way, way too high, and the normal sights are unusable with the handle mounted.

This started as I tried to install the GGG scout rail on it so I could mount my magnified scopes further forward for eye relief. That's when I found out the SU16 receiver rail doesn't meet 1913/Picatinny specs, so it won't fit without mods, either to the GGG rail (most likely) or the receiver rail (as if!).

I also tried an ARMS Swan sleeve with a flip-up BUIS, since better iron sights would be a Good Thing, but the spec problem is the same and the ARMS sleeve is much harder to modify than the GGG.

Not only that, any AR-style BUIS is high enough off the receiver that you'd need to raise the front sight more, which would require more WECSOG hacking on expensive parts, and it would stick up even more than it does now.

Finally, any scope with much of an ocular bell won't clear the ARMS #40 style BUIS on the Swan sleeve without high or extra-high rings, which gets back to the cheek weld problem and makes the gun less compact.

Really, the SU16 works fine for me with medium rings on all the optics I've tried, from Eotech to 4x Cmore to my various 40mm Leupolds. I just need to move the eye relief out, so I think I'll modify the GGG scout rail that's on it in the pic for fit (it also protects the Zytel rail from damage/wear, and I swap optics a lot).

This gives a bit of extra height, but not enough to be a problem, and gives those extra few inches I need up front. All I need now is to improve the iron (plastic) sights, but I don't see any good options for that so far.

The real problem is that most of the mount solutions are designed for the AR/1913/Picatinny platform, and anything that has 2 cross bars will not fit the SU16 without modification to one or the other. Single-bar mounts are OK if the bar's not too close to Picatinny spec, but that leaves out many of the best ideas.

Now all you need is a 5" tall cheekpiece to see through that scope.

Well unfortunatley the M16 hand guard and sight isn't funcional. You need to raise the front sight a whole lot. It also looks like you'd need a really high cheek rest.

You could use one of these to adapt the scope to the rail of the SU-16 and bring the line of sight through the scope closer to the centerline of the bore. That way you wouldn't need to use an excessive amount of elevation adjustment for zeroing.

http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/p...cfm?PartID=167

The mount is designed to adapt ACOGs with the carry handle mount to a weaver rail.

Oops. Just noticed that the C-More uses rings to to mount it to a carry handle adapter. Still, the adapter would give one the ability to mount an AGOG to the SU16 (Presuming you want to mount a scope that costs as much as 3 times the rifle to an SU16).

But in all seriousness, if you got an extended swan sleeve you would be able to scout scope the SU16 or put the eotech out front. That might be an interesting, albeit expensive, mod.

No side rails for extra goodies though

Looks like something that a kid made. Just put a scope on it and shoot it. Or you could use the money to buy a mini 14 and spend 1000 bucks getting it to shoot like a bolt gun. So many options.
