Olympic makes two versions, a rifle (k40) version with a dedicated lower that accepts Glock magazine or an upper with a modified Uzi mag that mounts to a standard lower. I have a 45acp and had a 9mm uppers and if the 40 is anything like them then I would think it'll be just as reliable/accurate and eat any ammo. Ejector spring setup is kind of funky and Uzi & Sten mags are pain to load though.

I'm not sure if they ship to CA but you can always try the GB.

Oly makes 40S&W, 45ACP and 10mm

They are really the only manufacturer of other than 9mm components, that isn't custom.

i just got off the phone with oly about getting one of their glock lowers and he said that they are banned because olympic arms (all) is on the list. i thought that it had to be banned by make and model... i asked him if their glock lower model was on the lsit and he said because olympic is named its banned. he wasnt really interested in listening to me so i said thankyou and hung up.

You can build your own 40 caliber lower: http://www.cncguns.com/projects/AR45lower.html

Or buy one from Bazooka Brothers: http://bazookabrothers.com/products1.htm

Olympic does make all that stuff but they are tough to come by.

Not sure why some of you are talking about lowers. You don't need a separate lower to fire pistol caliber rounds in an AR. You just need the correct upper and a pistol caliber magazine with the correct adapter to fit into the existing AR mag well. You can call OlyArms and buy their upper with the correct magazine, and you're done. No need to buy the lower as well unless they won't just sell you the upper. They've been ignoring CA buyers for lowers or rifles ever since their name made it on the ban list, and that's not likely to change unless the list goes away.

The only reason you'd want a custom lower is if you want to use different pistol magazines that wouldn't normally fit into the AR mag well. The reason for considering a Bazooka or a home-made lower is because the magazines which OlyArms was using for their .45 upper (Uzi mags) are really hard to come by, so people started looking at using different magazines like the Sten. The sten mag, however, is wider than the mag well on the AR, thus the need for modification. This is only an issue for the .45. I don't any of this is an issue for the .40 which the OP requested.

For a 40S&W build.
Since the 40S&W is the same OAL as the 9mm.
I'd use a standard OLL with 9mm magblock.
I'd use 9mm magazines and open up the feedlips slightly. Maybe reprofile the followers silghtly if needed.
Then use an oly upper or build an upper using an oly barrel, bolt and ejector.

No need for a CNC or Bazooka Brothers lower unless using 45ACP, or maybe 10mm, so you can use grease gun magazines.

I am wondering if they have pistol caliber complete uppers (AR 15 pistol length barrels) with a pistol lower in 40 , 45 or even 9 mm ??

Then get the Olympic Arms GL-1 lower or the Lone Wolf Distributors AR-Glock lower. Both lowers utilize 9x19mm/.40S&W/.357SIG/.45GAP Glock magazines. Also because of the Glock magazines, both lowers use a magazine release paddle style button; which is not compatible with existing bullet button designs, so you will have to run it as a featureless rifle.

The Olympic Arms AR lower that uses Glock magazines is marked GL-1. Therefore, it it off-list because (make) Olympic Arms (model) GL-1 is not on either the Roberti-Roos or Kasiler lists. Olympic Arms policy is no CA sales. So, you will have to go through a third party to obtain it.

If you do not want to go that route, you can get a Lone Wolf Distributors AR-Glock lower, which is 100% off-list because (make) Lone Wolf R&D (model) G9 is not on any list.

I recommend the Lone Wolf AR-Glock lowers because it avoids the Olympic Arms AW list confusion and because they use a better magazine release paddle. Downside is there is a waiting list for them, because Lone Wolf R&D doesn't have the production capabilities to produce enough to keep up with the orders.
