Default Large pistol primers

I'm an idiot. I was stocking up on supplies last year. Should have got more large pistol primers.

Small rifle primers. Check. Large rifle primers. Check. Magnum primers. Check.

Large pistol primers. Got 2k. I'm out. Got tons of brass and bullets. I'm pissed because my 625 is my favorite gun for casual and occasionally competitive shooting.

Two questions,

-Any idea when large pistol primers will be in stock? I'm guessing not for a while.
-Can I use magnum primers meant for 357 with 38 special? I don't really want to shoot a match with magnum loads.

Thanks

You may want to check out the 45 acp brass that has a small pistol primer hole. I believe it is Winchester Non Toxic that uses the small pistol primers.

Primers are trickling in, just keep bugging the local gunshops.

Or try the most expensive shop in the area. My local high priced one has
ammo stacked to the ceiling and uppers up the ying-yang. I am sure they
had primers somewhere too.

nn3453, where are you located? If you post your location, I'm sure I or someone else can help you out (whether to sell, loan, or trade). CalGunners are kinda funny like that.

BTW: I don't think you want to use Mag primers for 38 Spec. loads... they burn hotter and if you're using wadcutters, possible over-pressure condition. Maybe if you don't use any powder? JUST KIDDING!

Just my $.02

If you're going to be shooting those .38 Special loads in a .357 magnum gun, then you'll be fine. If they're for a .38 special only gun, then I would be very careful and work my load up from minimum with caution. Some people will tell you to never do it, others will say if you use caution it may be o.k. It's your choice. I've been using Magnum primers for .38 special loads in my Gp-100 .357, because I don't want to use up my standard primers so I can save them for my 9mm loads.
