Default AR 10 optics: Leupold Mark 4 vs Trijicon TA648-308 Acog

Need your expertise on adding optics to my N6 308 with 16" barrel. Looking to pick up an optic for local range shooting and future hunting. Choose your optic.........

Here are the specs:

Leupold Mark

or

Trijicon TA648-308
http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/p...6&categoryID=3

Thanks and I appreciate your advice.

They're pretty different scopes, so it really boils down to what you'll be doing with it the most.

The ACOG, at 6x fixed mag, is a great mid-range battle optic, and if you can do the BAC thing, it'll work for CQB as well, but not everyone can use that effectively. The fairly short eye relief will limit where it goes on the rail. It comes with a usable mount. It's not a precision shooting scope (though people learn to shoot them precisely with practice). It's not so great for hunting if you'll be doing shorter range work.

The Leupold is a great general-purpose scope, with the 3.5-10x zoom. The long eye relief means you may need an extended mount, depending on your stock and how you shoot. It'll be more precise at longer ranges, and will be good at shorter ranges as well, but won't be as fast, depending on the range. It'll be a better hunting scope, IMO.

Leupold's illumination isn't daytime bright, while the ACOG's is.

Personally, I'd get the Leupold, but I like flexibility in scopes, and prefer general purpose scopes to battle scopes.

When I use a 308, I shoot for distance, and I shoot for precision.... an ACOG is a battle optics, it is NOT a precision optics.... you cannot dial in your bullet drops etc..

The Leupold will serve you much better than the ACOG.

Personally, I would want a Nightforce on an AR10, if you can afford it. Mil/Mil, and illuminated.

But you may want a battle optics, since your AR10 is only 16".

I would get the ACOG for local range shooting. Assuming local is under 100 yds. It is awesome!

If possible definitely look at the ACOG before you buy it. It's a very large and heavy optic. On a 16" I'd want something smaller. I love the TA11 on my 18".

TA11 vs TA648

Mounted on a 21" Noveske N6

Great info fellas!! Based on the size of my barrel, i'm gonna stick with the Acog for CQB and range shooting. I already purchased the Leupold, so now I need to find a buyer! Any interest? LOL
