Does anyone know if you are permitted to hunt with a rifle at Boggs Mountain State Forest, Knoxville Recreation Area and the Cache Creek Wildlife Area? I've done some checking and know hunting is permitted without any special permit or drawing but I can't find if it's shotgun only. I'd be going for the rabbit and squirrel and would like to use my .22

Default Found the information looking for something else...

http://www.boggsmountain.org/FAQs.htm, shows no restrictions on type of firearm.

http://www.dfg.ca.gov/lands/wa/region3/knoxville.html shows no restrictions.

www.shastacascade.org/blm/clearlak/cache.htm shows yes to hunting but not target shooting(?)

The one to watch for are the Army Corps of Engineers. They allow hunting in some areas using shotgun or archery equipment only. Take a look at:
http://www.spk.usace.army.mil/organi...lakes/noa.html

All of the web sites have email addresses so you can check before you go.

I've never hunted before though I did go through the hunter safety class. If you have space for 1, I'd like to tag along for rabbit/squirrel hunt in the Cache Creek area.
