Exclamation Bee Canyon

Bee Canyon, just east of Hemet, has been closed for the remainder of the fire season by the USFS, along with everything else in the San Bernardino Ranger District.

Last year it didn't re-open until mid-December. Hopefully it will re-open earlier this year.

I am hoping to organize a clean-up day with the USFS in the near future and will post in the clean-up forum.

I called the USFS Station in Idylwild (909-382-2921). Also, a friend went up this weekend and the gate was locked.

The Cranston Station posts the fire danger as "Extreme" and everything in the area is really dry, in spite of the cool weather this past couple of weeks.

Can we get in to do the clean up while it is closed? Anymore info / pics of the location? I'd be more than happy to grab my son and my brother and go help out.
Keep us posted

Closed until end of fire season. Fire season has been relatively kind this year, and I think they want to keep it that way. Wait for the first rain storm to hit. I'd guess around X-Mas time. Then it's happy shooting till about June.

famas619 was kind enough to point out that Bee Canyon is now open. OCDO is having a LOC shoot n que this Saturday, but planning a CG clean and shoot might be a good activity for sometime in January.

Default BEE CANYON

Hi all: My friend and I went to Bee Canyon on Sun. the thirteenth and we only got in about one mile due to a washout, we had a pickup 2 wh. drive and the washout was about 3 ft. deep and 6 ft. wide, don't know if it's leveled yet or not but until it is you need 4wd. AND high clearance, if anyone has been there since please inform Calgunners, Joe.

Not surprising. Those box canyons didn't make themselves. I've gone out in my civic and done some pretty creative maneuvers to get through washes. Sometimes you can get away with using a pair of long 2x8s if you are in a compact car.

I just got back from the canyons ( Almost every canyon was taken )and was talking to a few rangers about this and that
I guess they are going to be making some improvements to the canyons
such as a pipe barrier about knee high to keep people from bringing out things like waterheaters / Refrigators / stoves . to shoot

Hopefully they won't want to lift some of that stuff over a small steel fence

Also they told me of another thought :: Like some service clubs have an 'Adopt a Highway " . How about adopt a Canyon !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We could have a Cal-Gun canyon to take care of

It's just a thought

Same here... I've actually never even seen those lower gates locked. I take my quad all the way up to Pine Cove pretty often. Well... not since I almost killed myself on it. It's a hunk of metal and plastic in my garage.

Adopt a canyon? Sounds like a good idea. I was out at bee canyon yesterday and the CAT. was leveling the road. It was pretty full, i ended up sharing my lane with two other shooters.

Now THAT gate I've been waiting to see open!!!! Too bad my quad is still down and probably will be for a few months! It's been so long since I got to ride that way, and believe it or not I did get sick of riding the same half of the mountain that has remained open to us.

Although at this point after riding nothing since last winter, I would take anything given to me. Everytime it snows I look up there longingly. I can always take the truck, but the quad is the more fun option by a long shot.

A long time ago... probably 4 years ago I had ridden on HS19 (WAAAAYYY out above Soboba before Poppet Flats) and it was a BLAST. One of the coolest sections of trails out there if you want to go flat out. Long sweeping curves and tons of half mile or longer straights.

I was on that clean-up
My Yamaha Rhino really helped a lot for getting into the narrow canyons to get the trash out.
I go out there a couple times a week , Either to pick brass / target shoot or just check on the canyons and let the dog run . and I always bring some " Stuff " back

As any boy scout (former or present) will tell you, you alway take enough trash bags to haul out everything you took in and everything else you can carry. Perhaps the FS could start posting signs: "Leave this place cleaner than you found it or just leave!"

Good Point ..Maybe That's where I get it from

I 've talked to a few ranger friends I made there about that and it's a good idea . But ..... The signs most likely would just get shot-up !!!!!!!!!!!
Heck ,,,people even bring in road signs and No tresspessing signs to shoot up

I wonder if the USFS could strategically place a dumpster somewhere around there. When we go, we always pick up more than we brought in. Last time, we filled up 8 large black yard bags.....seems to be getting trashed up pretty quickly in comparison to last year.

Probably wouldn't get shot up if you put it close to the highway before that first sharp bend to the right. That and they could be charged with destruction of federal property.

That idea has been talked about also ( Good Idea )

Problem ///// If it's out there near the shooting area .Somebody will start bringing their house trash and couches
I guess it's happened elsewhere

Here's a tip ::::: For " US " good shooters that clean-up when we are done
Across the street at Cranston ranger station
When you turn into their driveway . Go right ( West ) toward the Service yard and large shed
In front of the gate there are 2 rolling trash bins
Travis ( Head guy with the OHV unit ) told me it would be a big help if we would put picked up thrash there from the shooting area

You do what you can, lead by example, and don't be too shy to give people an earful if you see dumping. If it get real bad, set a date about 20-30 days out, start a thread and I and others will show up if possible and do a mass cleanup.

At Bee Canyon targets are limited to dirt, paper, wood, clay pigeon, or a metal spinning/knockdown target. Anything else = an unlawful discharge and vandalism and/or littering. So if you see then blasting away an old TV you can report them and they are in deep $h!t even if they claim they will pick it up after. At a minimum, take down license plates and location and call it in ASAP.

This isn't Tijuana no matter how much of Hemet thinks otherwise and some people just need a reminder now and again.

Can anyone give me an exact location for this place? I have a general idea and Im sure once I get out there it will be obvious. I live in Ventura County but I have a friend in Anaheim Hills and we would like to shoot here. Take a look at this map and tell me if Im in the right place
