So I have an itching for a CETME or a HK91 type rifle. I know you can get it if it doesn't have a pistol grip attached. If you can find a FFL willing to do the transfer for you and at the same time not rip you a new one like the $3,200 dollar Century hack jobs at the recent CowPalace show.

Anyone know of a FFL that will do the transfer here in the bay area?

50Freak...

It's hard enough finding an FFL that'll do FAL clone receivers now.

At least w/FAL clones there is a legit option of having a stripper-clip-fed, fixed10rd mag option.

The HK clones' lack of this will prob scare most FFLs off even though the rifle you speak of is indeed a Type III "by features" AW, and would be lacking the key evil feature.

If I were to get an HK91/Cetme clone - I would look for a Springfield SAR3/8 (made in Greece w/ HK licensed machinery) or the earlier FMP G3s (same as the Greek ones but made in Portugal). Should run you in the $1200's or so. I don't believe any of the above is specifically listed as an "AW" here in CA, and it would insure you of a factory built rifle. You of course would have to have it shipped "Kalifornicated" (no pistol grip) to your FFL.

If having a gripless G3, I would be VERY careful about transporting it within CA.

I would transport the pistol grip in a separate locked case, and even at home I would have the grip locked up separately.

A crusading DA could say this was too close to being an AW even if DOJ said it's OK. You're kinda running close to a constructive possession issue. At least w/FAL clones there's a legit variant w/stripper clip feed that you could have.

The G3 clone, OTOH, really can't exist in fireable form within CA.

BigMac, you're the man.

I've got a PSG-1 barrel that I've been thinking of creating a PSG clone. Now to find a good receiver.

50 Freak - Hey, thanks for this thread. For all the times I've gone thru the CA AW guide, I've not realized that only the CETME Sporter was banned by name. What an idiot.

Wish I lived closer to BigMac...

Nevermind I forgot about the 2 rule that you can have a detachable mag but none of the other evil features.

Please be more specific, as these could apply to any centerfire rifle with a detachable magazine (M1A, Mini14, Mini30, M1 Carbine, M96, SU16) if your intentions were not good.

For you fans of the first "Sniper" movie with Tom Berenger and Bill Zane, the SR-9TC is not banned by name. Here is one for auction on Gunbroker:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=32729394

If you can find a FFL who is balsy enough to DROS one in for you without the pistol grip of course, that's another story...

Yeah, but I'm not talking about a HK, I'm talking about a CETME or a HK CLONE.

Sure you could build a SR9TC clone or even better a PSG1 clone on a Century reciever.

How much? Let us know how it shoots without the pistol grip, when you get it.

I'm probably not going to shoot it much. It's going into the safe until I move out of this state.

Hey 50, do you mind telling us where you ordered it from? I'm curious because I was thinking of maybe getting one after I finish my Vulcan AR build.

Got it off an auction. Friend of mine (from out of state) let me know that he had put his CETME up for sale and I went on the auction site and won it last night.

I'll post pics when I get it.

Ok, what kind of cetme are we talking about?

Cetme sporters are on the list by name. I will accept clones without the PG. If the piece comes in with a PG it wont get delivered w/ said grip.

Definitely not a "CETME SPORTER". This is a postban Century (built by angry beavers) CETME.

Don't worry 50 Freak will probably have this for sale a week after he gets it because he'll find something else he wants this week!

Hey people, the guy selling me his CETME says he's got one extra for pretty much the same price. Your pistol grip will have to be sent out of state to stay legal. But the rifle can be sent to BigMac (if he wants to do anymore CETME transfers).

I'll volunteer to shoot it for you. You have to know if it's safe to shoot, after all. I mean, what if the barrel explodes on the first shot, or the trigger gets jammed and the gun goes full auto just like in the movies? You can't take that risk, let me test it out for you.
