(Long time reader, First time poster)

The editorial, “Sacramento fiddles, state get burned” [June 8], sites my Senate Bill 357 as a “mischief law.” Yet SB357 will help law enforcement solve more handgun crimes by placing unique identifiers on each bullet sold or made in California.
Furthermore, you say that instead of authoring such bills, lawmakers like me “should be back in their home districts working and listening to their constituents.” Sb357 is the product of my being in the district and listening to my constituents.
Maybe if the O.C. Register editorial board would leave its ivory tower, it might discover that the public wants this type of legislation.

Joseph L. Dunn
Santa Ana, 34th District

What a pack of lies....it's no use with anti gunners like Dunn. His mind was make up regardless of what the public wants.

This goes to show what we're dealing with. If anyone doesn't want to get down from their ivory tower it's Senator Dunn and the rest of the anti-freedom gang.

Typical elitist.

I've previously sent my correspondence to this Senator and I'd urge others to do the same. It surely can't hurt.

The idea to ID each bullet is not a bad one, it just strikes me as naive. Assuming that all bullets shot out of guns were id'd, there was a way to associate the id with a person and they didn't cost any more than normal bullets, I'd be all for it. But:

a) such bullets will be more expensive
b) an illegal trade in non-ID'd bullets will no doubt start to flourish
c) it will be difficult to associate the ID bullets to a person.

Seems like a dumb idea promulgated by some bullet ID vendor and it will undoubtedly not be passed.

Not a flame, just an FYI:

Wes Chesbro {D}

Denise Ducheny {D}

Dean Florez {D}

SB 357

It's not so simply partisan. Don't discount that some of the Democrats don't buy into the bullsh*t that Dunn and the other totalitarianistas push every session.

We need the district reforms Ahrnold is pushing. I hope the special election is successful, but the Democrats are using the unions to attack the reforms.

For good reasons.
The district reforms are not the focus of the unions though. The other measures that effect pensions and tenuring of teachers are the priority.

Remember, there are four separate "issues" here. Redistricting is of it's own.

Hey I know theres some democrats that vote pro-gun sometimes, but those are rare.

Also in ab 352 two democrats well known in the San Bernardino area voted against it.

Negrete McCleod and Baca. Good thing I voted for her though.

My problem is those democrats, especially those that hold important positions like Perata, who bend it their way.
