Default marlin 795 22LR for a 10 yr old?

Hey, so I have never shot a 22, just always messed around with my 12gauge.
But my nephew wants to start shooting. I always see the marlin 795 for sale at Big 5
Is it a decent gun? I haven't read many reviews. Wondered if anyone knew much about it?
Thanks. His Bday is in a month, and when he comes over he always wants to shoot something besides his BB gun I bought him last year for his birthday. (His parents aren't big gun fans)

Look around a bit, we've got at least one big thread currently active on the Big5 deal for that exact Marlin.

i just bought one for my girlfriend because its lightweight and has really good reviews for a cheap, accurate plinker. which is exactly what i was looking for.

i would say go for it.

A couple of weeks ago, I took my friend and his two sons, ages 7 and 9, to Angeles range and we taught them to shoot on a Marlin 795, while we played with larger caliber toys. The 7 year old's hand was struggling with the length of the stock, but the 9yr old was fine with it.

Check out the Rimfire section. Plenty of reveiwes on the 795. I bought mine 2.5 years ago and love it. Fun, accurate plinker.

The Marlin 795 weighs almost nothing and the recoil is about the same as a pellet gun. Just start looing for magazines at Midway and Brownells, they tend to come in waves (not available for awhile,t hen available), there are no third-party options for magazines, only factory.

I'd really like a Colt 1903 frame, bad finish okay!
I'm also looking for a good deal on a 1911 frame or two for budget/spare parts builds.
