Austrailia (Cairns/Brisbane) was nice and runs a very close number 2 to Pataya Beach, Thailand - and yes, for all those reasons.

Well since I was born here, went to boot camp, A school, and was stationed, all in San Diego, and other than a few visits to Mexico, I will say Mexico.
It sucks when I get together with others who were/are in the service, and the stories start, I have nothing to add, I'll I can do is laugh and drink my beer. ![]()

Yeah, I just remembered that some (if not many) "young" Marines have yet to experience liberties ports since 2003. There's no shame in not being able to chime in about libo ports. You can talk about a city or place that you found fun while you were on active duty.

Perth, Australia - spent 6 days, 5 nights there in '07 - what a blast. I'm still not sure my liver ever recovered from that port stop...
A close second is Phuket, Thailand. Different reasons, though... (and NO, not what you were thinking...)

That's because you only got to see Olongapo / Subic "lite". Back in the day (I was "Station Dito" from '76 - '84) there was no place better. Pattaya Beach, Thailand was a close second (before the pervy Europeans started taking their "Sex Vacations" there.) Hong Kong (pre-turnover), Darwin, Cairns/Townsville, Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart, Tasmania all right up there. Yokosuka and Sasebo were fun, but I never really spent a lot of time there.
