Default Is my ar-15 barrel in 5.56 or .223???

Trying to be sure, i've taken off the handguard and the only markings on the barrel are

"M1S" and "1/9"

Obviously meaning "model 1 sales" and "1/9 twist"

Is there a different way to tell? IIRC .223 out of a 5.56 is ok, but 5.56 out of a .223 is bad right?

I've yet to shoot 5.56 out of her, but if the need be well with ammo availability and all it all comes down to what i can get my hands on, how can i tell what my barrel is made for? Info please

A barrel should have it stamped what it is chambered for. If you want to be safe about it, just shoot .223.

thats what my original thought was, on my last build the barrel was stamped with 5.56

Was i right? .223 out of 5.56 ok, 5.56 out of .223 bad?

but its different when you order the upper online from out of state and are forced to wait for a month until you actually see the darn thing
It was an impulse buy, i jumped on the deal when the place said "we have one pistol upper left" so i bought a whole ar pistol

Thats correct. Anyway 5.56 is hard to come by these days. The other day at the gun show it was $479 for 5.56 and $429 for .223.

The main reason i ask is becuase i was at AmmoBros the other day, i was going to buy their deal of 250rnds of .223 for appx $120, but they were all out. Instead they had 250rnds of 5.56 for the same price. I almost bought that instead... That's why im trying to be sure what mine is rated for. I will call Model 1 Sales when they are open on monday...

So if you have a sig 556, what should you be shooting out of her, both perhaps?

Check the end of the barrel topside just in front of the site. Or maybe you could go to http://www.model1sales.com/ and check the barrle specs on the barrel you have.

Thats where i looked, says "M1S" and "1/9". Checked their website, shows that they offer the same barrel i have in .223 and 5.56.
