Default Mak 90's in California?

After browsing some of the forums here, I see there's quite a few people with rifles that are just slightly modified to be legal here in this state. Well, got me to thinking about the Mak 90. My dad picked one of these up back in 1990 right before the Clinton ban, and apparently before California ban as well. He doesn't live here anymore so I can't just go shoot his. But how hard is it to get these rifle here, maybe with a "bullet button" or some other slight modification to make them legal here?

I found this picture on Google, but this is exactly what my dads looks like, I really like these guns

Follow the flow chart and you'll see why a MAK90 cannot be legal in CA. It's a listed AW.

My buddy has a Cal. Registered Norinco MAK-90. BEAUTIFUL rifle, always a joy to shoot.

BTW - Are the receivers stamped or milled with Norinco MAK-90s?

You'll need a bb or lock if you want to keep a grip on it.

You can look for a GSAD movie gun usually around $2000 or less.

Or a National Match Mak-91 milled receiver...(not to be confused with nhm91 stamped receiver AW)

Another would be a norinco BWK-92. 5.56. Some are angle cut and some straight cut in the rear.

Can't he just change the receiver and add a few U.S parts to make it compliant?

Looks like we're getting spurts of incorrect info above.

1. Norinco MAK-90 rifles are banned in the Kasler list (11 CCR 5499).

2. Generally speaking, no characteristic features can be tweaked on a 'named AW' to make it a CA-legal non-AW.

OK, thanks for the replies guys. Guess what I should be asking now is, what can I to get a rifle that closely resembles a Mak 90? AK with a pistol grip stock? Can I get a stock like that for AR's? Guess the stock is what I like so much about those guns.

I'm not talking about"tweaking a few characteristic features".If he installs a new receiver and the 922 parts,he is good to go,right?New receiver = not on list. It's a few hundred bucks, but if he has the gun and can't use it,why not.

I'm not sure that the MAK-90/91s were built to the same specs as other AKs. I seem to remember that they're machined out of thicker sheet metal.

But theres plenty of other AK options for you in this state. Unfortunately, shops in San Diego seem to still be a little AK phobic. I would check out cold war shooters at the next gun show in Del Mar.

PRKarms had a gorgeous MAK91 up for sale a little while ago, it may still be available (not cheap, but in truly immaculate condition)

Here's a link to the sale thread.
