Well the current Calguns consensus is otherwise (right or wrong), but I don't feel like being a test case...

Its a numbers matching Bulgy AKs74 kit. The receiver cover numbers match the rest of the rifle so it should be the standard cover.

Smile WASR 10/63

Re-finished the wood, almost done will probably coat it with satin poly again. Added ST kydex wrap and SAW stye pistol grip, and added Solar tactical F.A.S.T. muzzle compensator.

The wood on the top side of handguard is a little bumpy, but when I sand it it gets dull not sure what to do there?

IO platform with a Kobra, Battlecomp, and Timbersmith furniture...

And no problems with the IO so far. Goes bang everytime I pull the trigger and the rivets are holding strong. And its suprisingly accurate. I had a Norinco underfolder in the 80's that you couldnt hit the side of a barn with shooting 5 feet away from it.

Not a rifle, but love this set-up nonetheless, but will probably be de-bubba'ng it soon (wood handguards going back on and perhaps a Rakurs on the rear sight, in place of the current red dot). The green laser works REAL well in bright sunlight and aids BIG TIME on getting her on target.

It was built from a Romy G parts kit. The bolt handle is a machined(by me) 7.62x39 case.
The receiver and barrel is black chrome, and everything else is chrome. Furniture is House of Kolor metallic candy apple red.'
heres some more pics....

Still need to drill the gas port hole and do some minor adjusting to make the bolt carrier ride a little smoother. This is my favorite build so far.

^Nice! How do you like the Ultimak scope mount? Do you find the scope losing zero do to its location right on top of the piston?

Default The Twins

Took the twins out last weekend and managed to finally snap a few pictures...they're camera shy.

Bulgarian 74 and Romanian G AKM, both built at SoCal AKTeam build parties.

Refinished the wood on both, using "Cabernet" and Minwax wipe-on poly. Replaced the front handguard on the Romy with an East German so I could go featureless. Only other addition was a side mount on each, other than the compliance parts and of course the maglock on the 74 and the grip paddle on the AKM. Finish is parkerized only, although I'm toying with the idea of trying Duracoat.

Just got bored and decided to have fun with this one. I reshaped and refinished the wood and built the pistol onto a 6" barrel using AK105 front sight combo. Shoots like a charm!

In a lot of the pictures, I'm seeing pistol grips with a "bakelite" or "reddish brown" color that match closely to refinished stocks.

My question is, can anyone recommend a U.S. made pistol grip for an AK with one of the "finishes" mentioned above?? Or are the grips in question all foreign made??

Mine's a Polish bakelite. They're great grips, but foreign-made.

Base: SGL-21

Bonesteel side folder (fixed), Magpul CTR (fixed), grip wrap, RS Products AKML side rail mount for Micro, Barrel cut to 14.5" with perm Battle Comp (work by Roccobro), Krebs combo FS/GB, Solar AK-MFER and Safety Tab, Haley Thorntail SBR mount for Surefire M300, and of course Ultimak.

Only 1" longer than my AR, and 8lbs -- just 8oz heavier with the same equipment (aimpoint, light). When you add ammo to the equation the weights really diverge though.

Nothing exciting, but she's mine

I was thinking about going featureless but at the end of the day, I decided to put up with the bb and the other legal crap because she had to look as close to what she was intended to be:

Mine's a USMG 5.5" muzzle brake. It's there to keep things legal when folded.
