Default S&W M&P 9 Trigger needs help!!

I just went to the range today and was reminded just how bad my MP9 trigger really is..I keep pulling and then it gets gritty; in contrast my MP22 has the sweetest trigger? I understand from some of the forums the APEX Forward Sear and Trigger kit would resolve all these issues? Does anyone in the Sacramento area know of a good gunsmith to provide this service?

Do it yourself - Apex has a step by step on Youtube on installing it. Pretty easy mod to do...

See Chris O'Keith @ Personal Defense Weapons in El Dorado Hills.

He worked @ S&W for 10 years or so...

I hear a lot of people complain about the M&P trigger.

And a lot of people like me don't know what all the fuss is about.

Sure it's not as nice as a tuned 1911 but it works.

Want to know what a really bad trigger feels like, try a CZ. Horrendous, and I've owned several CZs and still own one.

Good luck with your trigger job.

Don't know what CZ you shooting but my CZs have a very nice trigger, even my 97 out of the box was nice. Not as nice as my STI's but a lot nicer than the sand paper feeling of a M&P.

The good thing about the M&P that you really don't need to buy anything for it to improve it.

I wish I was more gun savy when I had my M&Ps because they are good shooters.

If your on a budget do the Burwell diy trigger job posted above. If you have an extra $90 get the Apex DCAK kit. I got my M&Ps before Apex was around so I did the Burwell job on both my 40 & 45. Basically I polished all the contact points and reshaped the striker block to a similar profile that Apex markets now.
In my 40 I recently installed an Apex sear and RAM with very good results. My 40 now has a 4.5lb pull with a great reset. After the Burwell job it was a smooth 5.5lbs.

OP - Is the M&P new or used when you purchased it? Just trying to find out when it was manufactured.

I've had 3 CZs. A 75b fullsize, a compact, and my current one an SP01. The SP01 has the worst trigger of them all. But they were all long, heavy, mushy and gritty. I'm talking about the SA pull too. So yeah, CZs are great guns but the triggers suck. CZ people like to downplay it like it isn't that bad but it doesn't really get any worse. Good for you that you like yours.

I have 2 shield's, one with apex trigger & one without. I shot them side by side this weekend, and the difference was amazing.

I was going to upgrade the trigger on the Ca compliant shield for my CCW, but was advised not to by my local gunshop. Is a trigger upgrade a modification that could be used against me if I should ever have to protect myself? That's what I was told. Is it really considered the same as decreasing the trigger pull poundage?

Edit: apparently no after market trigger modifications are allowed in Sacramento county for CCW.
