Default Selling Lower

I'm planning to sell a lower. What are the steps if I ship it? Do I ship to an FFL, if so how do I do it? Can I ship it myself to an FFL or do I have to go through an FFL? Is it the same procedure as when I shipped my rifle to the dealer for repair? Anyone know what fees are involved? When i shipped my rifle it cost me $25 via UPS. Do I have to fill out any DROS type paperwork before I send it?

I know this topic may be redundant already, however I tried using the search button and couldn't find all the answers.

Thanks

It all depends on who you are selling it too. Yes you need to pay UPS to ship it.

Locally, face to face at a gun shop or shipping to FFL so they can complete the transfer there?

If someone wants to buy it contact the FFL and ask them what there requirements are. last time I shipped a lower I just boxed it and shipped it to the ffl. I had a copy of his FFL of corse.

You just need to make sure the FFL will accept from an individual - Then ship it using UPS or FEDEX - I would also suggest adult sig. comfirmation and insurance for a piece of mind -

No fees unless you had an agreement with the buyer about spliting fees -

No paperwork on your end - The FFLs would like to know where said weapon came from so your name and address will suffice -

Get a copy of the FFL for the person buying it. Have them send it with payment. Throw the lower and copy of the FFL it is shipped to along with a copy of your drivers license in a box and ship it insured with signature release with UPS. Done

My driver's license, what for? Not sure if I'm cool with just sending it out to an unknown.

If you are shipping it to an FFL, the FFL must have your info to put in his bound books as to where it came from. So, because of that, many FFLs require you to send a copy of your ID.

IF you were selling it in a PPT at a local dealer, IIRC, the dealer would be copying your ID as well, so, its basically the same thing.

Then just send all your info written on a piece of paper for the FFL's records.

that sounds like a better idea. thanks.

So basically, have the buyer contact the FFL, get a copy of their FFL, mail me the FFL with payment. Pack it up, UPS it and then crack a cold one?

You can send it USPS to the FFL thats willing to receive it from private party. USPS accepts rifle and/or rifle parts. Just ship it priority with insurence and receipt confirmation.

if the FFL is willing to accept that as proof for his records.

And you don't need to actually have a copy of the FFL, not all FFLs will provide a non-licensee a copy of the FFL. However, they should give you the FFL number, and you can enter that into the ATF EZ-check system to confirm that the FFL is valid, and the address as well.
