Default CZ 75 SP01

I am interested in getting one of these from a custom shop for some gun games. Any members here have one of these??? I would like to order the one from CZ custom but it looks like no CA sales. I have also been talking to Irvington arms about a custom job on one of these beauties. Any recommendations or comments regarding mods etc?

Buy the SP-01 (only CA-legal model) and then have it sent out for a trigger job, and a swap to a competition hammer. You won't need to do anything else (except maybe night sights)

Nice to see a CZ 75 owner!

I was thinking of going all the way with one.
-Respring/polish trigger job
-Comp Hammer
-Remove FPB
-Recoil reducer
-FO front sight/ Adj. rear
-Alluminum thin grips

Basically the works, like the custom model. I was just wondering if anyone has done something similar.

Buy it from Frank with the work done, or buy it and send it to Angus Hobdell http://czcustom.com/index.aspx

My wife shoots IPSC production with an SP-01 from Frank. She loves it (she shot 460/480 at Reed's PPC Monday, and the gun can shoot to whatever the operator gives it), and it's hard to argue with the value. We'll probably be buying a few more, if that means anything.

EDIT: If you shoot production, just remember to retain the DA/SA trigger (some swap to SA only if not shooting IPSC)

Default I have one too

The CZ75 SP01 was my very first full sized 9mm 3 years ago; a few months later I purchased a CZ 2075 RAMI also a 9mm. Both are on my carry permit along with my HK USP45FS. All 3 have had triggerjobs; the SP01 and USP45 have extended barrels from EFK Firedragon.

SP01 is awesome out the box, but I agree it needs a good trigger job.
Everyone says Frank @ Irvington Arms does great work with these.

Hey Leelaw,
If you don't mind me asking, did you change out the barrel on your SP01?
Looks different than the stock one. Nice and shiny

Mvpatriot
IA already has one custom build already by Frank. I handle it and it feels nice and the trigger pull is about 4 lbs. The sale price I believe is $965 plus taxes and DROS. You will be good to go.
Then mvpatriot, you got to hold on to your wallet, because you will want another SP-01. I got into trouble, I brought one and trick it out myself and then got another one from IA. Now with two SP-01 and both with a trigger pull of 4.25 lbs.

Another good idea... I've never played with one of his, but I've seen nothing but positive feedback.

I have a P-01 (the compact).

It was a good gun out of the box. Rugged, reliable, accurate and relatively cheap (picked mine up about two years ago for $350).

Had a trigger job done on it and now it's GREAT!

My only complaint is the weight. A little heavy if you're going to be carrying it all day.

great responses guys, I'm trying to ink a deal for a used one from a member as I type....
Seems these are very underrated pistols, I love my Dan Wesson PM7, so why not stick with CZ.

No, I buffed the barrel to take off that terrible factory finish.

Proud owner of a Matt Mink SP-01. Had the DA/SA converted to SA only, SA straight trigger w/ overtravel set screw, ambi SA thumb safties, competition hammer, competition sights. It's insanely accurate and easy to shoot. Sold my 75B Tactical cuz the SP-01 relegated it to safe queen status.

I have a stock sp-01. It's one of my favorite and threatens to be my most favorite even in stock form. The grip fits me better than glock, sig, MP, and M9's. The only gripe I have is the heavy recoil spring. A softer one makes it more pleasureable to operate over all.

I can imagine that a worked over one would be a treat. I handled one of Frank's work in his shop, and it's very good. I was tempted to spend more money right there right then

Edit: Actually, I have 2 stock sp-01s.

sounds like your SP-01 is set up pretty much like my EAA Witness Elite Match in .40 SA straight trigger with over travel screw (trigger is 4lbs max) no movement between slide/frame/barrel what so ever, match grade polygonal rifling barrel, over sized thumb safety, over sized mag release, heart shaped hammer. Only grip i have with the gun is that it's got SHARP edges and is tearing up my brand new leather holster.

BTW, nice 75B Tactical, I havn't shot it yet but will soon.

Huna koa,
How does the EFK barrel do versus the stock one in accuracy etc?

OP, I am also learning from your thread, living in SD, I guess I may have to lean towards sending mine to Angus.

This thread is tempting me to buy another 9mm (which I had mostly sworn off).

Also, seeing that I can get a .22LR conversion for this makes it even more tempting.

Thanks, guys.

I’m another advocate for the SP01 as well for the other 75B variants. Its true the trigger is not so great out of the box but I had Frank at Irvington Arms give it the ol’ once over. Now it is one sweet shooter! Another thing to note is that it is a fairly heavy pistol. That may not bother you. On the plus side it really helps with the recoil. I would say get it now. You will not be disappointed. However, this comes with a warning- CZ’s are very addicting! I found that out the hard way.

I also need a rig for gun games, what would work the best for CZ75 sp01?

..Did the trigger job which included the comp hammer and reduced main spring. The extended EFK barrel was my idea; which gives me a 5.4 inch barrel. My reasoning was that I also wanted to shoot lead along with everything else that gun will digest, and I was going to take it to Daves' Metal Works who was factory trained in CZ handguns to port it for me. I'm doing this in stages; as I just received the barrel about a month ago my initial 'testing' has to do with breaking in the barrel and see what it will 'eat'; which is everything so far. And accuracy is excellent; 3 inch groups offhand at 50 feet are possible at the range with 1 shot per second[max allowable per range rules]. Needless to say, inch groups at 20 feet are confidence inspiring results. The reason for porting is because I carry it; and that'll be within the next few months. It's on my permit and I carry it all the time; it's ONLY a 9mm; but I believe in shot placement; I'm not a bullseye shooter, nor do I want to be. I practice bullseye when I work on fine tuning my shooting skills which will help me be a better overall shootist. I also have 2 H&K USP45's; one of which I use in IDPA competition; the USP45 Expert, totally stock. The other, USP45 FS also has an EFK barrel; extended to 5 inches; and I carry it too.

Just saw that Turner's has these on sale for $599 this week. Do it. That or see if you can order it from Angus, cuz' shipping back and forth is more than a trigger job.

Too late, I called Turner's and the saleman said all the SP01 had sold out before the sale hit the paper.

I just picked up one of these awesome guns on friday. I got mine from uncle pauls exchange in ventura. They have another in the display case. $610 , and only 8.25%tax. They also had a p01 for $590.
I think I like the sp01 better than my sig226.

I've got an SP-01 I'm trying to sell because it never really felt "right" to me. The guns function well, have soft recoil, work great with Kadet kits, etc, but something about the ergonomics never really felt right to me. There's a whole bunch of modifications you can make to clean up the action, but not a lot of holsters or other accessories. I'd suggest you put enough rounds through one to know you'll be happy with it before you drop the cash.

I tried out a good 15 or so handguns before purchasing a CZ SP-01 as my first one. Its been by far the most enjoyable gun to shoot. I cant really add more to whats already been said about the gun. A trigger job will help a lot, however with use the trigger does smooth up a bit. I purchased a Kadet kit for it also and that helps out the pocket while practicing and it doesnt change the feel of the gun at all. The weight is still similar as well as magazine size etc. Oh did I mention the gun is sexy! Here's a little gun porn for everyone.

I've had my SP01 for about 4 months and its a sweet pistol to shoot. Installed the CZ Custom Comp Hammer and did a polish job. The DA pull is still long but now its buttery smooth and the break crisp. SA is very, very sweet with the comp hammer. Its easy to do yourself if you've ever worked on triggers before.

I had a P01 as well, but the extra weight of the SP01 along with the longer sight radius makes the SP01 a much more accurate gun for me. Its just balanced very nicely. If I find a good price on another SP01 I'd pick another up without questions. Its a very nice shooter.

A+ on the Kadet kit. I have one on my P-01 and it's incredible! Over 1,000 rounds of cheap bulk ammo and not a single failure.
