I don't think I have the space. I've got to do some spring cleaning.

If you have a table or a nice corner, those serve just a well.

Can you explain how the off camera flashes sync with the camera?

With the optical flash trigger. I sell these for $15/ea. The camera has a flash on it set for 1/128th power, just enough to trigger the two flashes and provide just a hint of fill.

No, since the stand is clear, when the background is lit, the clear stand becomes white.

peanut slaves, usually; or optical sensors built into the strobe (like monoblocks, or power packs, which are studio-type strobes). During the split second a flash goes off, the other sensors detect this and trigger their associated flashes. Since this all happens in less than 1/500 of a second, most shutter speeds will allow all flashes to fire before closing the curtain.

Just a bit of lighting advice: Try using one strobe (or both together) behind a curtain (softbox) above and behind the subject. use white reflector cards to bounce in fill.... it'll give the shot more contrast and not look flatly lit.

Just adding some photos taken with the same setup. I use it for most of the stuff I sell. I'm also an eBay Powerseller, and I can tell you the #1 tool for selling online is good photos.

Photos look great, but I spot some oily residue and/or fingerprints on the firearms!

i was using google to find out how to make my own studio prior to stumbling across thread and this produced an outcome to what I wanted to achieve except I would have trouble fitting my rifle in it lol.

Ah yes, the infamous box studio. I used that when I was starting out. Then I figured out that a closet is bigger than a box.

I spent a lot of time and money on a light tent/box, it kind of works but I am not getting enough light, I think a couple off camera flashed would do the trick, now I have to RTFM for my camera to see if I can force a flash when there is already enough light.

Mind if I merge this with a post I did back in 2006?

I suspect some may have their monitors turned up too bright. I usually have mine set only a few bars from lowest brightness, as it is color calibrated.

Then again, I purposefully brighten up the image to show any imperfections in the gun, since I'm not a dealer selling new guns.

You can recover from a lot of that washed out look by simply adjusting the levels in Photoshop.

Nice technique, a little too over exposed for my taste.
