Default CA Governor, Allen or Cox?

It's time to pick a candidate to endorse for Governor.

At this time there are only two viable candidate to consider, Travis Allen and John Cox. The only other candidates in the running are Newsom and Vilar, neither is acceptable or friendly to gun owners or the 2nd Amendment.

I could share more however I'm going to keep this to 2A issues only so...

I reached out to both Allen and Cox with a simple set of questions regarding their stance on 2A rights and CA gun laws to decide who Calguns would support.

This was the reply from Travis Allen's campaign:

"Paul,
I'm a member of Calguns myself, so it's good to hear from you. I can take some time and answer your questions, and I would like to give you some input on the questions forum members are asking candidates.

Travis is solid on 2A. We just had our committee meeting for shall-issue and he made some really good points in committee. He is a shooter with 3 guns on his concealed carry license. Hell, he keeps pressuring me to get a glock because he's so enthusiastic about his new Taran Tactical 19 (I'm an M&P and revolver guy).

We had a conversation about the roster, and debated running a bill to repeal it even though we knew it would be shot down. We chose not to run it at the advice of various gun groups because such a bill would interfere with ongoing court cases.

I'm happy to see the forums being proactive and coming up with questions, but I think they are written in such a way that's too easy for candidates to weasel out of. It's way too easy for a consultant like me to write some cookie cutter "I believe strongly in our second amendment rights," line. I would be happy to write some more cutting questions and email them to you, because right now it's been way too easy for these guys to pay lip service to 2A without knowing the first thing about it.

Clayton, Team Travis Allen"

About a week after I received this from Allen's campaign I received a reply from Cox's campaign with exactly the cookie cutter answers Clayton mentioned.

Whoever has the better shot at winning. They can be the best "Calguns" candidate, but that means squat if they are the worst "Election Day" candidate.

Honestly either of them would be 1000x better then the two Democrats. But I feel we who love the Second Amendment end up shooting ourselfs in the foot, pun intended by having two choices. Because of the way the primary works we are going to see two Democrats in the general election. We need one good candidate in the primary not two. All said I’m picking Allen even though that’s tough because he recommended Clayton but a Glock. J/K

This is exactly right. Choosing between the two is irrelevant. One of them needs to drop out and consolidate support for the good of the party.

Travis Allen hands down. I don't know about you guys but I get a bad vibe from John Cox. To me he gives off the typical RHINO attitude vibe like those in congress and in the federal government in general.

Also, I personally think he does not have the best interests of citizens and patriots at heart. This is just my opinion but after watching some debates between him and Allen, he seems to want to focus on issues that are not a priority here in CA. To some degree, I feel they are mediocre and not important. Even though he does have some good intentions, I'd rather play it safe with charismatic Allen than Cox. He sides with the 2A very well.

Travis is a solid GO for me! I'm positive California would be in good hands with him as Governor.

I'm voting for Travis Allen, even though he and Cox are close in polls. IF they could get together and chose one, then we COULD have a Dem/Rep finals, instead of a Dem/Dem.

I pray our decision doesn't come down to Newsome and Villargrosa.

The CA GOP convention is this weekend where they decide who to endorse, not sure when the vote is though. Hopefully whomever did not get the endorsement, drops out and endorses the other candidate. Personally I feel Allen would be there better choice.

Allen for sure. Cox donated to a Soros pact and tried to hide it. To me cox is a Laurie Smith type. He's really a Democrat but running as a republican because he has no shot at beating Gavin running as a Dem. Cox is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Travis Allen has the qualifications and personal history to make him the most viable candidate. I support him as opposed to Cox, who, I personally believe, is neither a winnable candidate nor an honestly pro 2a candidate.

I don't understand where the support for Cox is coming from?

Fighting to put a candidate before voters in November, California Republicans strongly preferred businessman John Cox for governor at the party's convention in San Diego this weekend.

During an endorsement vote Sunday morning, delegates favored Cox, 55 to 41 percent, over Assemblyman Travis Allen of Huntington Beach.

Travis Allen posted a great video of John Cox on FaceBook today. It is a recording of Cox saying, "We can do it here in Illinois because we solve problems."

Umm... the problem is we're in California, John.

Cox dumped a LOT of money around trying to essentially buy the endorsement.
From people at the convention the word is Cox donated between $10,000-$20,000 to CA GOP ahead of the convention.

Another problem is CA GOP refused to count the proxy votes from delegates voting for Allen who couldn’t make it to the convention.

I'm getting confirmed reports, from the person who was speaking with two of Cox's supporters when they told her, that Cox paid the travel and hotel costs for his supports to be there.

Quote:
I was also told directly from a paid guest of a delegate that he paid for rooms on an entire floor of the Sheraton for said volunteers and delegates. Donating $200,000 to the CA GOP with $100,000 of that donation ear marked for a delegates party.

Exactly. And that means sticking with republican principles, through multiple elections if necessary, until we win.

And Cox has been endorsed by the pro-life community because he is much more vocal and active on life issues generally. 2A is a life issue too, of course.

If you have to choose one of them (IE, they are both on the primary ballot) your choice is irrelevant. It looks like the only way we can get an R on the final two ballot is if the Republican vote is not split in the primary.

One of them needs to drop out, and I don't really care which one, because either would be better than Newsome. Though none of that really matters, because short a scandal, neither one has a chance of beating Newsome in the main election, IF they get that far.

Travis Allen is leaps and bounds better than Cox on every issue. It would appear Cox has a higher chance of winning, but since California will never elect a Republican again, I don't see the point.

All I hope is that, as we get closer to voting, whoever is #2 will endorse whomever is #1. If not we have a risk of having no Republican on the ballot in November. I guess there's some risk of not having a governor on the November ballot at all, because if Gav wins 50.1% in the primary, he wins, and that could possibly happen.

We're like Democrats in Alabama. The only way we can win is pick a boring, mushy inoffensive moderate like John Cox (or Doug Jones), and hope the other side melts down (Gavin is revealed to have raped a woman or something). Given the fact Cox appears to be the leading GOP candidate and it's a non-partisan primary, Cox seems to be the rational choice. Allen would be a far better governor and is one of us, but don't see the point of protest votes.

John Cox is getting more attention. I've seen articles on Fox News endorsing him and have herd Newt Gingrich endorsing him on KFI.
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/...at-sounds.html
From everything I've read here Travis Allen is the better candidate for 2A, but like others said, anyone is better than Newsome.

For the record Allen's donations were tickets to candidate dinners prior to running for office. Business people tend to check out candidates from both sides to see how their companies will be affected.

Cox never replied and now there is a Facebook group full of people banned from his FB page for asking questions.

Very well presented reasons to vote. It looks like Travis Allen is the better candidate for us. And a Calguns member and he is packing.

Cox sounds like a DICK ( failed Chicago hack ) and that is something coming from a person named Richard ! ( shouldn't make fun of names but, guys - that was way TOO easy ) Long Rule the TEA PARTY

Until the Rep stop running multiples on the ballot, we will never see another REP on the Nov Ballot. That said, Travis Allen for me (2A wise, but Cox is probably the wiser of the two choices.) Just my best guesstimate.

I don't really like either. I'm sitting this one out personally. If Chiang was good on guns, which he isn't, I'd vote for him - but again, he isn't, so I won't. Newsom is a nightmare. I don't know the other dems. Cox is a garbage heap almost equal to Newsom.

Travis is ok, but he just reeks of "the swamp" as it were. He makes sense for the endorsement for sure, but I personally don't much care for him.

The sad thing is, If one dropped out Specifically to make sure the other had the best chance possible of defeating the Democrat, then the guy who dropped out for that reason is actually the guy that should be our governor.

The election will be between Nusance and some other democrap. Two R candidates will split the R vote and neither will make it on the ballot. Travis Allen has my wasted vote and the other democrat in the final election has my vote. Bottom line we all need to fight to keep Newsome OUT.
