Exclamation IMPORTANT: Please attend Nordyke Oral Arguments

All,

It is quite important for the actual Nordyke appeal that we pack the courtroom and the overflow. Our counsel would like to be able point out the large number of "The People" sitting in the courtroom that day who believe that this is an individual right that applies to California. Background on this case and why it is important here.

We will be hosting an event after. If you can also attend that, please post that in this thread. Details and tickets are available.

To remind, the argument is Thursday January 15, 2009. The argument will start at 1:30 PM in Courtroom 1, 3rd floor of the James R. Browning US Courthouse.

The address of the Court is:
United States Court of Appeals - 9th Circuit
95 Seventh Street
San Francisco, California 94103

This is at the corner of Mission and 7th and is one block from Civic Center BART. There are a couple of parking decks closer to the Convention Center that are easy walks.

You must have government issued photo ID to get in the building. Note that no weapons, or knives of any kind are allowed inside the Courthouse building. Photography is also not permitted. I'm making sure the court can seat a few hundred "The People" for this case. Please wear business attire - we want to look impressive. I'll be in a suit and tie.

A large showing of well dressed firearms owners will help prove the point that the Second Amendment matters.

Edited to add: Please cross post this to other forums, blogs, etc. A very large turnout is very important.

If I'm in California, I'll be there.

Indeed! I will be there unless I get a new job. I donated my calguns t so I will be in an ar-15 shirt or usmc with a nice set of slacks/shoes.

I feel like some hippie waiting for the ok to drop LSD on the front lawn of the white house.

Does the court have a place to 'check' cell phones? If I can't even carry a tiny SAK, I'd really like to be able to call 911 - but my only phone, as many are, is a camera phone.

911 isn't the issue, of course - I just want to be able to text to my wife that I've started for home!

I did a reconnoiter this past week. You can bring your mobile phone or laptop in. During the actual hearing and in the actual courtroom they will ask you to turn it off. If we overflow into the cafeteria for closed circuit TV, you can use the web to live blog. The Marshalls told me that they'd overflow into another courtroom first but I'll get more details on that as we get closer.

Count me in. Dressed "Mall Ninja" style ......Don't sweat it, I 'll be there respectable and boring so as not to scare Jane and Joe public. Besides, Halloween will still be a long way off.

But maybe a few blue or orange plastic replica guns for effect??? They ARE training aides after all!

A reminder for anyone going into a court building -- wallet chains, perfume (if your wife or GF comes), and eating utensils are not allowed either. Basically, nothing steel/metallic besides your cellphone is allowed in with you. This is coming from someone who did jury duty all last week.

sometimes they prohibit cell phones with cameras. It depends on the mood of the security.
