Default Allow US Citizens to purchase obsolete military rifles, pistols, and ammunition

Allow US Citizens to purchase obsolete military rifles, pistols, and ammunition by repealing Executive Order 13637

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pet...ve-order-13637

Just discovered this.....hopefully we can bring back what was ours originally. I just purchased my first M1 Garand through the CMP and hope to see more in the future. Please share this link to others groups and individuals

Seen a lot of petitions out there which is a good thing but here's the agenda on the one I listed

We ask President Trump to repeal and replace Executive Order 13637—Administration of Reformed Export Controls , March 8, 2013. This EO blocks the return of WWII/Korea/Vietnam era firearms (M1-Garand, M1-Carbine, M14, etc.) pistols (M1911, Colt 38, etc.) and surplus ammunition . These historic pieces of the American Military rightly belong in the hands of American citizens. In the past, many firearms were sold through the CMP but the available stock is gone or almost gone. Large stores of these firearms are located oversees. The people of the United States should be allowed to purchase these historical firearms. We ask that President Trump immediately revoke E.O. 13637. We also ask that he issue a new E.O. to allow the return and sale of obsolete rifles, pistols, and ammunition.

Over 96,000 signatures required before March 23. That's 27 days.

This needs to be circulated

Very true ScottB, that's a lot of signatures to get before the deal line and there are a few other petitions on 2A that requires signatures. Even if we don't get enough at least we tried.

Pardon my ignorance but how exactly does EO 13637 block the importation of such items?

I read through the document and it seems mainly to deal with exports but I am not familiar with the background information.

Text of EO 13637 here:

Hinnerk, I'm not an expert in the subject at hand but I think they are saying when he signed the law that bringing back the weapons we sold or lend out is not in the best interest and safety of American.

Again that's what I get from reading it and it's confusing as hell but anything to bring back our C&R weapons used to defend our nation and which is part of our history I'm for. Unfortantly these types of weapons are a dying breed and we need as many surviving examples before they are all gone. Condition will be rough of the weapon but at least it's a start. One good example of the depleation of original M1 Garands is the CMP..... everything is pretty much sold out and little to choose from compared to years ago.

Again this is what I understand of this and anyone that has any more info or if I said anything wrong; please correct me

( (22 U.S.C. 2753(a)(1)), whether the proposed transfer will strengthen the security of the United States and promote world peace.

(p) Those under the portion of section 40A of the Act added by Public Law 104–164 (22 U.S.C. 2785), to the Secretary of State insofar as they relate to commercial exports licensed under the Act, and to the Secretary of Defense insofar as they relate to defense articles and defense services sold, leased, or transferred under the Foreign Military Sales Program.

DVSride, I tried to find out what I could on this. Evidently there is a long history to this of which I was not aware. In any case, I don't think that executive order explicitly bans the importation of C&Rs. It seems to be a change to the delegation of authority. It isn't clear that repeal of the EO would be necessary to achieve the desired goal. I found this Fact Sheet from the Obama White House that was issued in the same year (albeit several months after the EO).

https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov...e-gun-violence

It reads, in part:

Quote:
Keeping Surplus Military Weapons Off Our Streets

When the United States provides military firearms to its allies, either as direct commercial sales or through the foreign military sales or military assistance programs, those firearms may not be imported back into the United States without U.S. government approval. Since 2005, the U.S. Government has authorized requests to reimport more than 250,000 of these firearms.
Today, the Administration is announcing a new policy of denying requests to bring military-grade firearms back into the United States to private entities, with only a few exceptions such as for museums. This new policy will help keep military-grade firearms off our streets.
From this, it seems that the ban was a policy of the Obama Administration. I am thinking that Trump could easily change that policy, with or without any change to the referenced EO.

That's always going to be a problem, but their focus is and always has been on guns that are commonly used in crimes, or guns that are perceived as "evil black military weapons"

C&R isn't even on their radar yet and if it is permitted federally, California has no restrictions outside of NFA type weapons.

Very true, even though we are hearing many good things through Trumps Admin......unfortunately we still live in CA where we gotta deal with other problems that we all know about. I just hope that he realizes that changing the policy would be a good thing. Just gotta hope for the best and do what we can and expect the worst.
