Default Firefighter/Paramedic/EMT forum?

There seems to be a lot firefighters, medics, and EMTs here. Could we have our own forum in the "specialty forum" area?

Would this forum have rules against saying anything remotely derogatory about said firefighters and EMT's? Would it be a place to come in and ask "Respectful" questions of our beloved flame worshipers, and hope that they deem us worth of their response?

If so, sounds great!!!

I like the idea... I would call it "First Responders" (Medics/EMT/Firefighters)

First Responder forum sounds good. Would be nice to have our own little spot.

With the amount of CGr's that are rabidly anti public safety / employee and their unions, it comes off looking like a "safe place". I am okay sharing my experience in off topic but would participate.

I would participate but I don't think it's necessary. Maybe relabel the law enforcement forum to include firefighter paramedics and EMTs.

It would be easy to weed out the trolls and those who know just enough to fool the unqualified. What a great place it would be to use as an educational tool, perhaps find some old friends, for the retired keep abreast of current goings on in the community. Mentor, teach, guide those who seek it. Help with various steps in job hiring. Dispell myth, BS, and conjecture. We can police our own as well.

Thank you for your consideration.

How sad, I see it as an opportunity to show what is good about the various professions. If this sub forum does happen perhaps learn from it. There is good stuff.

You will only further anger the taxpaying citizen who knows little about the profession, but constantly hears about stuff like that.

Are you going to help the new people out to learn how to do it? Everyone who works is working to make the best income and benefits. If stated otherwise they are FOS.

The problem with that strategy, as I see and have experienced the direct result of it, is how it affects those of us who are left to deal with the guys who go off on an extended injury leave prior to finally being retired. Somebody has to work their post positions, weather they want to or not. It's great for those who love to suck up FSLA overtime, but of those who have no choice, it get's in the way of many other aspects of our private lives. If I am mandated to work an extra four or five twenty-four hour shifts every month, and not permitted to use any accrued benefit time due to staffing issues, that is a problem.
IMO, if you are gaming the system without any real disability, and then rubbing that in the face of the average Joe who has no path or ability to go that route, you are part of the problem, and not contributing anything to the profession.

If you've ever noticed how GlockTalk does it, they have a "Serving America" forum with LEO, Fire/EMS and .MIL subforums. Seems like a good way to organize it.

and one for
Doctors
engineers
IT guys
city workers
etc

I think the reason for having LEO makes sense since they use guns as a daily tool.

While I'm not any kind of first responder, I'm pretty sure that LE is just as much first responder as you can be. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Given the main topic of this forum, I see how a LE would have emerged first.

Perhaps a "First Responders"
Section with then a LEO sub forum.

This forum already has enough sub forums. I'd get behind it if they just modified the LEO sub forum to a first responders forum.

I like the GlockTalk example I gave above...seems to make sense to me.

Re: too many forums already, I think some could be consolidated or removed:

The "Young Calgunners" forum hasn't been posted in for a few months. The "Internet/IT" forum gets little traffic; most of those threads get started in OT by default. For that matter, the "Calgunners in Service" has only had four post so far this month. I'm not saying delete that forum, rather, I think it would get more traffic if it was in a "Serving" time main forum.

ETA: after thinking about it, a "First Responders" forum isn't a bad idea, but I don't know how the LEOs would feel about their forum being merged/renamed. Some existing forums do need to be merged or eliminated, however (as in my examples above.)

Most of these people in our profession are no different than the average joe. No one helped me. I got where I am today but handwork and determination. You either wanna get off your *** and put in the time and effort or continue to complain and do nothing.
