I think the price was going to be around $1K or so, but I turned it down. She still has it and I doubt it's going anywhere outside the family.

Supposedly they were made in very low numbers because the Eagle factory burned down shortly after they started making them. All of their records were lost and that might be why ATF never listed (this is speculation on my part). Don't know if that's true or not, but apparently that's what Grandpa had always told my dad. I don't remember him telling me that info, but I remember as a kid not being too much interested in the gun because "it's not really a machine gun". Makes me chuckle.

Nice find, Ajax.

If you can buy it, you might seriously think about it.... it is a very good investment, and they are never going to make any more of them. heck if I had a free grand right now I'd try to buy it from you

you can never have too many open bolt guns.

Hey Nodda,
Does your family want to sell that Eagle?
I'd take it.

there was one for sale on gunbroker, it sold for $996.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=150653783

I was more than tempted but it would be a huge hassle.

Hell, she barely wanted to sell it to her oldest grandson, don't think she'll sell it to a stranger.

There is no way of knowing how many they made... all the records were destroyed at some point (fire?)

Because of the depressed market right now you can find them in free states for around 1k-1800... but the CA price would be around 2100.... and once these start making there way into this state you can expect the prices in free states to get up there too.

When this thread started, I thought that rifle looked like a Volunteer Arms. Here's mine, Volunteer Arms Commando MkIII, takes grease gun mags, I paid $225 25 years ago, used. Still functions well, but shoots a little low.

Exclamation Eagle carbine

I just googled "Eagle Spitfire Carbine" and went to this forum. In 1966 I bought an Eagle Carbine in .45 caliber. A year later I saw the same gun in 9mm, but didn't buy it. In 1968, with the new law, the ATF published a booklet showing what I thought was my gun, stating that the Eagle Spitfire Carbine was classified as a machine gun. I guess with the info I just found out here, my gun is not a spitfire, but an Eagle. So mine has been a legal semi-auto all this time. It has been relegated to the back of my gun safe for over 40 years. It is not fully automatic, and I have previously found no information about it and was afraid to ask. Any more info on this gun, please let me know.

Dig around the internet long enough and in the right places, it's possible to find some good info.

Cool thread resurrection. I used to have a daily script that would run that would scrape GunBroker and various forums looking for open bolt carbines for sale, circa 10 years ago. Always wanted one of the Fox / Demro carbines.
