It's lead shot that is reclaimed from a trap or/and skeet field that has accumulated it over the years. They filter the dirt and get the shot out and then sort it by shot size and repackage for sale.

This shot is not sorted though, it's a mix of 7.5, 8 & 9 per the first post.
Not many guys are on the trap/skeet field shooting 6's...

Thumbs up Reclaimed Uses.

This stuff is great for shooting skeet, since Skeet targets are right in your face. At a close distance this stuff crushes targets.. Its also great for shooing 16 yard trap.. But once you step back to your handicap or doubles, I do recomend using 1st generation shot so you get a real nice pattern..
We carry that too.

I've been using reclaimed shot for decades but the ranges where I bought it had several different shot sizes because they held money shoots and we used 4's,5's,6's,7's,71/2's & 8's.I've used it hunting for bandtails, grouse, pheasant, mtn quail & gray squirrels in ca.

Default Reclaimed shot

Look into accurate lead recovery, based in tacoma washington. They are selling reclaimed shot for $18 per bag, plus some freight if you dont pick it up.

It's only thread crapping when you do it in threads in the marketplace.
Since this is in the general discussion forums, it's perfectly allowed to alert people of better deals.

You know, someone should link this to the "wheres all the powder/primer" thread. It'll show that reloading prices were HALF of what it is now. at 24 bucks per 25lbs of shot its half of what I see at our local shop running at 57.99 per 25lbs of #8!

In my immediate area (Millbrae, San Bruno, etc...), a 25-pound bag of chilled shot is going for about $38.00 (Embert & Smithers) to $40.00. (Roto Metals in San Leandro). This will vary depending on the current price of lead.

There will also be a difference between CHILLED SHOT and MAGNUM SHOT.

Chilled shot is heavier, due to less antimony. (.5% to 2% antimony).

Magnum shot is lighter, due to more antimony. (3% to 6% antimony).

I also use a Hornady 366 shotshell reloader, which uses a shot bushing. This is a little cup which only let's a specified amount of shot drop into it while reloading each shell. You buy the shot bushing depending on what you are loading, as this will determine it's capacity (1oz or 1 1/8oz, etc) and shot size. (#7.5 shot, #8 shot, etc...).

So if you have this type of shotshell reloader, having mixed shot sizes will not give you consistant loads using these shot bushings. Or in other words, non-repeatable accuracy.

On top of that, magnum shot has more antimony, which means it is harder and will deform less. This means it will not travel as far, nor pack a heavier "whollop" for those mid-distance steel plates...but will give tighter groups.

Just some food for thought.

But if anyone knows a local place that sells shot at good prices, please post this info. (I am specifically loading with #7.5 shot - and prefer chilled shot).

I don't think this sounds cheep, I bought 200 lbs or unfired 7 1/2 and 8's for 230.00 2 weeks ago in Galt including sales tax. I talked to a company that sells 55 gallon drums of reclaimed for 10% over lead spot scrap prices. something like .40 cents a pound. I bought some from them to build a new keel for a customer's sail boat.

That comes out to $28.75 per 25-pound bag.

Pretty good prices. (Ten dollars cheaper than Embert & Smithers per 25-pound bag).

Where is Galt? Is that a city, or is that a company?

And if it is a city, what is the name of the store/place?
