Default AR-10/.AR .308 Poll - Which platform - Armalite or DPMS

So if you were starting a build now given multiple vendors with OLLs for each platform pattern - Noveske & Aero for Armalite platform and Fulton, DPMS, POF and others for the DPMS platform - which would you choose and why.

Most people hate Fulton.

I have both platforms.
If you want a .308 tack driver, Armalite Platform.
If you want a different (read better) caliber tack driver, DPMS Platform. There just seems to be more off-the-shelf caliber uppers that are in production for the DPMS platform.
If you're a do-it-yourselfer, and willing to go with a blank in the caliber you want and massage out all the kinks, I'd go to the Armalite.

Honestly, I'm happy with both my builds.
I did the Noveske in a .308 16" as a CQB/Pig gun and am doing the Fulton in .260 22~24" tack driver.

I don't really see a distinct advantage of one platform over the other. They're both great platforms for building an accurate semi auto from. I have an Armalite/Noveske based rifle, but if I were going to buy another one right now, I'd go for the DPMS LRT-SASS 308. That is one mean looking rifle

I will most likely be going with the RRA LAR-8 Varmint.

You might want to wait for someone to come up with a workable Bullet Button first; which might be awhile. The RRA has an ambidextrous mag-release. And since the RRA uses FAL mags, the internal release mechanism is more complex than a standard AR10.

And the fact that RRA is a little behind on their orders of the LAR-8.

What ever platform you choose, get your upper first because dpms is running 6-months back ordered!

I can't actually afford it at the moment, so I figure I've got some time to figure that out. Hector mentioned something about the BB being in the works in another thread.

I'm not dead-set on the LAR-8, but it's one of the few under my price cap.

Go with the ARMALITE, the run specials all the time on 308 uppers and well it is OG. I got to take a look at a POF lower mated to a DPMS upper and that were some gaps and it felt a bit loose (Not that matters on a EBR). I am in the process of building a super sass on a Noveske N6!

DPMS
It's current production, it's the one JP decided to go with.

Bullet Button I don't know.
How ever a simple drill, tap, and set screw is easy on the RRAs

Question about the DPMS LR-308. The PDF shows DPMS: Panther (ALL)

So is the DPMS Model:LR-308 considered off list?

Thanks

Someone correct me or add more to the list but, I believe that DPMS .308 uppers are compatable with Fulton, POF, and CMMG lowers. I dont know if the JP lower is offlist or not. I have a DPMS upper on top of my Fulton titan lower, so there is no doubt a legal way to get that type of setup here in cali.

DPMS compatible listed above...

M24armorer makes an AR10 clone receiver, as does Noveske and Aero

coldwarshooters and others have them...

BB works on all

You can't go wrong with either one. I like DPMS because they have a larger caliber section and I've had very good results with mine. I really don't think you'll find much difference between the two in terms of performance.

Armalite lowers are not availeable , they are on the list.
But you can get compatable lowers that have been mentioned already.

I have a pof 308 lower with a dpms bull barrel 24'' and it is nice tight fit between upper and lower after installing the necessary sleeves on the dpms upper, it shoots 3/4'' with 168g match rounds. Also....last time I checked coldwar shooters lowered the price on the pof lower by like $50 or so

OK so does that mean the DPMS LR-308 lower is On List?
And I need to swap it out for one of those mentioned prior to shipping to CA?

I have a customer that wants a 308 DPMS LR-308B That I have.

Thanks

DPMS LR-308 lowers are not legal for transfers in CA ... "DPMS Panther (all)" is on the original Kasler named ban-list. You'd have to swap out the lower for a compatible version. The Fulton Armory FAR-10 is a like-for-like swap.

Should I build from scratch with OLL?

Or can I find a dealer/FFL here in SoCal that will sell the P-308-16-MRR-308 complete with BB already installed?

is that gun the exact thing that you want? it's always more expensive to build your own gun from new parts. it's pretty expensive importing a gun to cali too... keep in mind that out of state fee.

i think a complete package would be cheaper and if it's exactly what you want then it's only a matter of finding someone to put the BB in or you can have it shipped in parts and then have the bb installed at your ffl.

I can't comment on CA fees, but you will always save money building it your self. Right off the bat you save 14% FAET.

Not sure what an out of state fee is.

CMMG has 2 types of 308 lowers. DPMS and Armalite style, but armalite is the only one that offers the adjustable gas block for use with a suppressor

Just buy a PTR-91, M1A or a FAL & be done with it if you want a .308. 1:They dont need to be built as they come assembled. 2:They are very accurate in box stock configuration. 3: They will cost you half of an AR-10. I started out with an AR-10, PTR-91, FAL, & M1A. I still have the M1A & bought 3 more PTR's. The AR-10, not so great, at least the one I had. Sold the FAL to fund another PTR, but it was a good rifle otherwise.

How ever a simple drill, tap, and set screw is easy on the RRAs
Aloha Aloha,

It sounds like I need to bring you some business at some point (the family home is in Englewood). I have several FAL receivers that need ... stuff. I'd also be very interested in learning more about the drill, tap and set screw for the RRA. Do you have plans for sale or such?

Thanks - Corey
