I used small, black zip ties. There doesn't seem to be any other way to do it.

I think tomd1584 might be a LEO, hence he is exempt.

Can a LEO buy a stripped lower receiver, DROS it as a pistol and decide he does not like it and sell it PPT?

Default How I mounted 4 CCA cheek rest

First off I have Spike tube with pad. I took the CCA cheek pad and removed extra plastic around rear holes and put 2" 8-32 brass screw in them to clamp down back. I then drilled holes in front of it so the screw was inside small tube on bottom and this clamp down the front (not to tight). Hope this helps, I can email a pic if u wish!
PS It also helped to upgrade latch handle (Mod4) to reduce pad catching the handle.

Could you post pics of this mod so I can lose the zip ties? Thanks.

My AR pistol has sat in my safe for probably a year now, it just doesn't get used, so I have been out of the loop with the whole AFG not a second hand grip statement from ATF.

So to clarify, AFGs are GTG on locked mag pistols but not on featureless rifles as there is still no word from CA DOJ as to whether the AFG is classified as an evil feature. From my understanding then, b/c my AR pistol is a reg'd AW, I can throw an AFG on it and still be legal, as it is exempt from all CA evil feature restrictions and ATF has said the AFG is not a second grip making an AOW... Is my thinking flawed or what?

ATF has stated that it does not make the firearm an AOW. DOJ has not taken a position. Below is the ATF letter. The AFG is mentioned in the last question:

heres a crappy cel pick of my first build ever I just finished.
Took me quite a few months to do, as Ive been caught up with so many other things.
Now I just need the time to shoot it!

This is actually my first "build" ever

Being that the upper is a LMT, I originally had planned on doing something of a more modern MK18 pistol, but ultimately decided to keep things a bit more simple and old school looking.

10.5" LMT upper
home completed 80% lower with no markings ()
BCM BCG
DPMS lpk
BCM gunfighter large latch charging handle
convertible bullet button
colt carry handle
double heat sheilded std type handguards
rifle extension tube and buffer

While I do think the A2 fits with the over all look rather well, I really hate these things, and have dumped them immediately on every firearm I own that came with one. I think I am gonna toss a MIAD on there.

Im going to see if I can get a DD ez carbine sling mount to work with it, plus add a can butt cap to the buffer tube and I think Im finished.

You may want to reconsider the buffer tube before bringing it out for public viewing. That tube can accept a stock, and then can be configured as a SBR

It's usually stamped somewhere on the barrel. The manufacturer of the barrel could tell you as well.

does not matter, I dont own a A1 or A2 stock with an adapter hence I cannot be charged with constructive possession. The only other stock I own that is for an AR15 is a std carbine stock which wont work with that extension so its moot.

Check archived posts on ARFCOM, this has been covered to no end.

Regardless, Im going to permanently attach a screw or just remove the threading on it just to play things a bit on the safe side.

Run a patch through it.... If it makes a half turn in 4.5 inches, it's a 1:9 twist bbl.

so a bit OT, but I finally got to fire mine (10.5 lmt) on Saturday, and dear god why didnt I build one earlier.

My buddy who is building one but hasnt finished yet brought along his 7.5in uppper with a YHM comp on it, and the concussive blast to the shooter is really monstrous. Just a tad worse and I say it would be unusable. You could feel it vibrate through your sinus cavity. My buddy actually had his nose start to run after a few mags. Not to mention it hilarious to have the loudest thing on the range be the smallest thing.

I know a lot of people write these off as a novelty, but I think they actually make a viable PDW type firearm.

Better and more pix to follow...

I know this is like 2 years later, but I am wondering if anyone has made the command arms saddle work? I am thinking about parachording under it til I get the desired thickness for a tight fit. Has anyone got this down yet? I am surprised no one has made a tube cover with a stock saddle incorporated yet.

From my research a few monthes back when building my own AR Pistol. I've talk to several gunshops and spend hours on the forums..

It seems that you can have as many pistol uppers (under 16inch barrel length) as you want, once you drosed and legally own a pistol lower.

You can swap the pistol uppers any time. There is no need to re DROS.

that should be fine, as long as you dont have a shortage of rifle uppers for your rifle lowers. As long as you have at least one rifle upper for each rifle lower you have, then having spare pistol uppers for your pistol lowers should be ok.

why do you think you would need to reDROS a pistol you already own? DROS = Dealer Record of Sale, there was no new sale, no need for a new DROS.

i thought it would be a different pistol bcz the regular ar is different than pistol, i need to build from a 80% lower or purchase a completed pistol so i thought they dros the upper/lower as a completed pistol.....anyway i'm new to ar pistol, i'm confuse too and specially i live in sf/ca
can you just buy a complete lower 1st and then get a upper like a regular ar???

I'll try to answer as best I can, your post confuses me as well

for the most part, an AR upper is an AR upper, they are physically interchangalbe between AR rifle and AP pistol. Legally no, by physically yes.

In order to acquire an AR pistol, most people in CA either have to build an AR pistol from an 80% lower or buy one that is already assembled. But once you have that legal pistol, there is no need to reDROS it if you change the configuration.

can you just buy a complete lower 1st and then get a upper like a regular ar???
for the most part, no, you can't just buy a pistol lower (even if it is completely assembled) and then put your own pistol upper on it. Reason being, you can't DROS that lower as a pistol if it isn't a complete pistol. Therefore, it gets DROSed as a long gun, and it might be illegal to assemble a long gun DROSed lower into a pistol. It might run afoul of CA's SBR laws.

for the most part, an AR upper is an AR upper, they are physically interchangalbe between AR rifle and AP pistol. Legally no, by physically yes.

In order to acquire an AR pistol, most people in CA either have to build an AR pistol from an 80% lower or buy one that is already assembled. But once you have that legal pistol, there is no need to reDROS it if you change the configuration.
