Default Selling a handgun out of state. Still registered in California?

I've been searching for an answer to this question for a while now and have come up blank.

When you sell a handgun to a buyer out of state does that state notify California of the ownership change?

Here is a quick scenario. I sell a handgun to a friend in Nevada and ship it UPS red label to his FFL in Las Vegas. That FFL starts the DROS and my friend picks up the gun. (Probably on the same day. )

Does the paperword sent from the FFL to the Nevada DOJ then get forwarded to the California DOJ to remove the registration under my name?

Thanks

No. the DROS is a CA thing. You need to send in a form "NOTICE OF NO LONGER IN POSSESSION" notifying DOJ that you no longer own the handgun.

Even if you sell in California and the gun is registered to a new owner, it's still listed in your name.

I got the registration report on my guns a while back, and it had several that I had sold still listed. As zinfull said, you have to specifically ask them to remove it.

Thanks for the feedback. I will deffinately pull this report and make sure I don't have any handguns on the books now that I don't have.

Any links to the forms if you have them off hand? If not I can do some searching around.

Thanks Again
