Default The fate of Burro Canyon?

Now that Obama has declared the San Gabriel National Forest as a National Monument, Burro Canyon shooting range may be in jeopardy. How can we make sure this great range does not go away.

I have only heard bits and pieces so if I'm wrong about this or someone has more info, please comment.

I have only shot at Burro a couple of times, and while it is not my cup of tea, it still would be a huge loss for shooters in southern CA.

It would be a big loss for me since I'm not a big BLM shooter. If you get a private bay at Burro, you can do most anything you like whether it be handguns, rifle or shotgun all in one spot. getting there isn't to bad either. Only takes me an hour and we can spend the day there.

I think Burro Canyon gets enough law enforcement practicing up there that there's no way Obama can touch it without causing more problems for himself.

But it is worth staying on top of. If Obama offers LEOs land for a new shooting range then we should force guaranteed civilian access as being part of the deal.

Any range that is forced to close is a great loss. Burro is a good close place to shoot. The old fish canyon range closed even though is was used by local police agencies.

Agreed, any range closing is a loss and I do appreciate the private bay aspect. Hopefully it won't come to fruition

It would be a big deal for me. That's the range I frequent. Plus if it closes all the folks that shoot at Burro will move over to ASR and it will get more crowded.

Besides, Calguns has their monthly shoot there. So, yes it is a big deal!

Simple truth of the matter...

Every time the Anti Gun crowd forces a gun range to close, our side loses.

It's part of their "death by a thousand cuts" strategy.

Burro Canyon is worth fighting for from that aspect alone.

Man I hope not. Their rifle ranges were ok.

But their private range options are awesome. Big loss

I hope not.

Come on! Burro Canyon shooting range is one of the nicest outdoor range I've ever been. (I only been to two) so that speak volume.

Loved the peace and quietness.

I do little or no "range shooting".

When I do, Burro Cyn is 40 minutes away. Doesn't have nice shade trees and a reloading shop like Angeles.

It also doesn't have Monkeys with brooms stealing you cases as soon as they hit the ground. Or the same Monkeys posing as RSOs. Fondling and drooling on your firearms in an unwelcome manner without asking. Even though during cease fires they are laying on the bench with breeches open in a safe manner.

I will NEVER go to Angeles again. But that said, even Angeles would be a terrible loss to the shooters who use it.

San Gabriel at Fish Cyn was an exceptional range. and a terrible loss the the shooting community.

I actually feel bad that I helped built the houses on the golf course in Azusa, that A-holes moved into that were instrumental to closing San Gabriel Gun Club.

Burro is bottom shelf at best. If it's the only place you shoot you're missing out on life.

I thought that there was a carve-out in the original plan that kept burro out the proposed new forest? Has that changed?

Desert Marksman (Private) near Lancaster also is within the boundaries.

Congrats, your reply is nominated for the dumbest posting of the year.

Yeah, no big loss if B.C.S.R. is closed down cuz we have another 16-17 outdoor shooting ranges available in the largest, most populated urban area in America .
Oh wait, there aren't that many you say? Only Burro and Angeles Ranges, that makes a grand total of 2 outdoor ranges serving a County with 10,000,000 (ten million) people.
So if they close one, we get left with only one. No big loss, really, five years down the road they're going to shut down the last one.
You're a troll.

One by one the outdoor ranges will be closed. Then the BLM lands will be closed to shooting. Then the indoor ranges will be zoned out of business. Then gunshops will be zoned out of business. Voila'! No place to shoot, no guns to buy...who needs guns in SoCal?

They see things long term. It may take a decade or more but they are relentless and remorseless.
