This is so ridiculous. Was HR 1022 not enough? So now we have 2 federal AWBs in the House?

I think if Heller goes our way, a FEDERAL assault weapon ban will be almost impossible.

At the very least, things like M1A, AR-15, and .45/9mm handguns will be untouchable because they are currently in use by the military.

The wording of the ban is scary. Any copies, duplicates, etc all banned. Does that mean the OLL's will be gone as they named the Colt AR-15?

I am not as quick to put all my eggs in the Heller basket just yet. I'd prefer to remain on alert until we find out what exactly the conclusion of Heller means and will do. With regards to the 2 AWBs, Heller is useless at this point.

Cosponsors [as of 2008-06-13]
Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE]
Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ]
Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT]

They are Republicans in Fairly liberal districts and theyre trying to appeal to Democratic voters.... All four had VERY close elections in 2006 and theyre selling us out to keep their seats.

That is insane... I would hate to lose so many Republican seats in the house.

The Assault Weapons Ban gets reintroduced every so often, but never goes anywhere. It's really nothing new. Remember, introducing a bill is relatively easy. Thousands of bills get introduced each year that go nowhere. All types of crazy bills get introduced to no avail. Actually getting one passed is a pretty amazing feat. It’s good to be aware of the status of the bill, but I would not worry about this unless it gets any farther along in the process.

Give them some time, it was introduced 5 days ago. It isn't like they sit around waiting for AWB to come across Congress.

This is political grandstanding.... THE LAST thing the democrats want in an election year is another AWB... Its something to go home to a liberal district this summer and say "I tried to get AWs banned...."

Perhaps I read it out of context, I have trouble understanding these damn things but wasn't there something in there that banned possession of AW's? I guess that would mean that all of the law abiding folks that did the "right thing" by registering their AW will get a knock on their door in the middle of the night I honestly don't think this could get passed if that is the case but none the less we must be on guard.
A law like this is ground for revolution....

Something goofy with this bill and that link.

Here is the same bill # H.R 6257 and it is a bill to reinstate the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-6257

Also if the amended list on that link is what they are proposing is added as an assault weapon they have included lever action. pump, bolt and single action weapons.

What gives???

I believe Appendix A lists firearms that are exempted from the proposed AW restrictions.

That confused me also... Is the bill so poorly written that someone could mistake a henry rifle for an assault weapon?

The bill number is incorrect then. I'm beginning to think someone has been stiring the pot. Check the calender on this link for the bill HR 6257 introduced June 12 2008.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...(H.+R.+6257)++)

H.R. 6257. A bill to reinstate the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act; to the Committee on the Judiciary.

I agree with you #6. From what I understand we have a lot of pro gun dems and repubs in the house and senate. This was one reason why senator mccarthy couldn't pass her bill HR 1022. She even admitted it in a t.v. interview that her bill had no chance of passing because the majority of senators we're pro gun.
