Default The best 9mm rifle???

I have several AR's and AK's: However I shoot alot of 9mm now since it is so cheap and my shooting is mostly under 100 yds. I also shoot alot in Nv with my brother. So My question to all of you is what rifle would you buy (forget your in Ca) to shoot 9mm with? Price would be under 2k and with a 20+ round mag.. Your thoughts please.????

I have a 9mm AR but I've been thinking about selling it because of my 22kit.

I would jump on a Marlin Camp 9 if you find one. Especially if you have pre-2k S&W 9mm high-cap magazines.

Both of these are discontinued, so you need to look for them, but try getting either a Marlin Camp-9 (uses S&W Model 59 mags) or a Ruger PC-9 (uses Ruger P-series mags).

Because it's part of my original post. My brother in NV likes to shoot as well and there are no restrictions for him to purchase semi autos either. He is but a short drive over the hill. I really liked the Vector/Uzi.

Marlin Camp Carbine in 9mm. I have a Smith and Wesson 469 with a bunch of 12, 15, and 20 round magazines. The longer magazines are better because the Camp Carbine doesn't let the mags drop free, so you need something to grab a hold of.

NcStar makes a scope mount for the Camp Carbine. It's sort of like putting a mount on an overgrown 10/22. I put a nice red dot on mine. Very easy to make hits on the steel plates at Angeles at 50 yards. Even easier at 25 yards.

I like the Camp Carbine so much I decided not to build an AR in 9mm.

The Ruger PC9 is hard to beat, as is the Marlin Camp 9.

Whichever one you buy, though, you should consider carefully.. yo will likely want to buy a second one and once you go one way you are pretty much committed.

My 1st choice would be an HK94 but you wont find one for 2k unless you go clone.

If you're going to keep the gun in Nevada, get an IMI Uzi Model B through your brother. More dependable and will increase in value faster than a Vector. Not trying to start a Vector flame war, but they have had some problems although the factory is very good at standing behind it's products.

Problem with Uzi's is optical sights; it takes a bit of work to mount one (usually a new top cover with a rail and side adapter for cocking knob.)

A 9mm AR is another good option, if you're going to keep it out of state you can even drink some Kool-aid and get a Colt.

I have shot the 9mm AR, HK-94 and Uzi and the Uzi is by far the best. The big heavy bolt totally slows down the recoil and with the 16" barrel, it stays steady on target for follow up shots. Its a smooth and sweet ride. However, the under folding stock seriously sucks.
When I build mine, I'm using the solid carbine stock, probably even the plastic one (instead of the wood one).

If you're talkng about owning outside CA--don't forget this:

Cheap, reliable, simple. As much as most people denigrate their pistols, they like the carbines.

I would like to remind you that 7.62x39 is about the same price as 9mm, and 5.45x39 is much cheaper. Having said that, the Hi-Point, Keltec, Ruger PC-9, Beretta CX-4, UZI, and many others out there are all pretty decent.

I kiss my HK 94 after every time I'm done shooting it. Best $700 I ever spent, but I don't think you'll find one for <$2k.

Well, I've only got one - a Ruger PC-9 with an LG-35 red dot - and it's a great gun, but I can't compare it to the rest. Lots of fun, accurate, reliable, shares mags with my P95, and didn't cost a fortune. Maybe a bit heavy, but I like it a lot.

A Real HK-94? Don't these go for like $6000?

I didn't think it was that expensive, but yeah, mine is a real HK94 (A3 model with collapsible stock). Twenty-three years old ($700 in 1985), but I don't think there are more than two scratches on the gun. Wish I had an SP89 to keep it company, though.

I just bought a Marlin camp 9 from a guy on another forum, 300 shipped to my FFL. I think it will be much cheaper than building a 9MM AR.

What would be a good optics setup for it? Red dot, and what brand? Or maybe a decent 4 power?

+1 for both choices. I owned both at one time or another and was not disapointed by either. Only stupidity seperated me from them

What's the mount setup for a Camp 9? If you can get a Picatinny/Weaver rail for it, like you can for the PC9, that opens you up to just about anything.

Since a 9mm carbine doesn't have all that much useful range, a red dot does the job pretty well. My favorite non-tactical red dot is the Ultradot 25 or 30 from www.ultradotwest.com, but I've been shooting my Millett DMS-1 on a Walther G22, and it's a truly great plinking scope. Works a lot like a red dot at 1x, and gives a useful amount of zoom at 4x.

Maybe I'll pop it onto my PC9 and give it a quick run at the range.

I think you are able use scope mounts from another marlin rifle and I think they are fairly easy to find. I need to start looking.

Can't go wrong with a RRA 9mm rifle. Accruate, well built, and reliable! Blowbacks are dirty but its a great way to shoot an AR cheap!
