Default SoCal Shotgun/Skeet Clinic 12-27-14 Debrief

Jack Frost nipping at our toes it was. But what a beautiful day to shoot skeet.

We had new shooters as well as repeat offenders. A near full house and off we go. Starting with the veteran clinic shooters we shot a round of skeet for examination while the newcomers had their guns fitted and were given the primers. Then we joined up and started at station one. The newcomers followed the veterans and caught on very quickly. The newcomers were given the finger treatment by Don "PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER!" "THIS IS NOT A RIFLE RANGE!"

Moving along the stations the veterans were treated to Doubles Troubles by Richard and the new shooters worked on the lead meter, hold point, and look points. It really helped them catch up by using us as an example. We ended up at all stations and each shooter worked on their faults. We were all pooped by the end of the day, but it warmed up nice and we finished up with another squad style round of true skeet.

I learned to lower my hold points, and attack the outgoing targets more with trusting my instinct for the leads. Was pleased to get a double at station 3 with that technique.

Thanks Richard and Don for putting these clinics on.

It was a good clinic indeed. I was impressed with the new shooters, they did very well for the first time out
Don and Richard are the coaches to go to if you want to learn or fine tune your clay shooting. These clinics are an incredible value.

For me, I'm scratching my head, trying to figure out how I missed 3 high 1's in a row

Another great clinic! I had a blast as usual. Now I need to decide what gun is going to replace my 870. I am tired of pumping those doubles...

You sure looked good pumping it though! I was darned impressed.

There are a bunch of ancients up at Oaktree that have pump 20 gauge and 410s, and pump their reloads. They are dang smooth operators.

I'll bring my CZ tomorrow, if you want to try an O/U for the day. It's adjustable, so we can make it fit ya...

And I'll bring a Weatherby SA-08 and my son's o/u, both in 20 ga, and you can shoot those as much as you'd like.

You're welcome to shoot my Fabarm XLR5 as well - but it'll require very slight contortions to shoot since it's set for left handed shooting. But you should be able to get a feel for how it shoots as well.

Also, pray the rain waits until the clinic is over.

Oops, guilty as charged!

First of all, let me say that the clinic was one of the best shooting experiences I've ever had.
I have to thank Don and Richard for putting on this clinic, and providing us with experienced instructors, who obviously care about the shooters, and are interested in truly helping others. I am a newbie to this sport, and they took the time to give me some personal attention. You will never find this level of instruction at 10 times the price!

OK, hopefully my longer M2 barrel will come in soon.

No need to take off the extended mag tube, since it's not hunting right?

Nope, no need to remove it. Actually, the extended mag tube may help smooth your swing.

Great clinic. Definitely took a lot from it. Thank you Richard and Don.

And yes I did get yelled at about my trigger finger. It's a hard habit to get use to since i learned on pistol and rifle ranges.

I forgot to ask, while at the clinic someone was shooting B&P ammo. Does anyone remember if it was the the sporting clays or competition version? My friend really liked the ammo that the gentleman let her shoot.

For Skeet, #9 is the best. For Trap, Sporting and 5-Stand 7.5 or 8 is the best.
To keep it simple, I usually use #8 for everything...
