$259!!!!!!!! The last time I bought any of these, I paid $199. The last couple that I bought (a 12 & a 20) did have choke tubes. But, I've seen some that don't! So, beware and make sure that you get one that does! Man, I wish I still had the first one of these I bought from Big5 back in the 80's. It came with a PG and barrel shroud as well as an 18" barrel.

Actually CSA, for twenty something years later $60 aint too bad.... Thats just my opinion. Although a PG & Shroud would make it a sweeter deal! =)

Got mine for $189+tax and dros a year and a half ago. Anniversary sale and a coupon made a good deal insane.

For folks who like shotguns, just so y'know there are a lot of very high quality shotguns floating around that are older than 50 years old... these you can buy cash and carry... often much better workmanship and helluva lot better looking than old Mossy... and best of all they almost always function 100%.

There will be a lot of 870 owners that will tell you that their 870 is better. I own both, have hunted with both and I'll say it's more of a Chevy vs. Ford thing.

My research found the remington and the mossberg had a similiar number of supporters or detractors and in the end it seemed like I couldn't really go wrong so I bought the mossberg because it was a lot cheaper with the deal I found.

Go fondle both of them, try each at a range if possible, pick what's more comfortable for you.

I bought a Mossberg Combo similar to this from Gemco (for those of you who remember them). It is the first gun I bought when I turned 18.

I've shot the heck out of it, but it's left me without a gun more than once - some of the internals are (were?) plastic and the recoil of a 12 seems able to break them. The folks at DVGW in Pleasant Hill have always been able to fix it in short order at a reasonable cost, but I no longer trust that gun and would never want to count on it.

Two of my brothers have 870's and I've shot many others. I would trade mine for an 870 any day and twice on Sundays, but I don't think there are many people who would be interested in that trade.

I know there are a lot of people who like Mossy's. Perhaps mine was just weak. But I know I will replace it with an 870 Wingmaster if / when I ever buy another pump shotgun.

If I were doing it again on a budget, I would wait for Big 5 to run it's special on the 870 Security (20" / 8 Shot). The action is not as polished as the Wingmaster, but it's plenty nice.

My $.02.

I would say look at both and get a feel of each one in your hands and pick the one you feel the most comfortable handling.

If still not sure buy both and help the economy.

Walmart has 100rd Winchester white boxes of 9mm for $18.97.

On the matter of the Mossberg combo, last year, that same combo was $239 on sale. $259 is still a good deal though.

i got one of these 4 years or so ago. It works fine, but I sometimes I find that the rounds will hang on the edge of the magazine tube, not actually up in and on the shell stops. When you fire it that round plops out on the ground. If I get the shell stuffed all the way up into the tube it's been 100% though for some reason it gets shot very little now that I have a Benelli.

Gator M-

Unfortunately, due to the way that the barrel screws directly into the front of the magazine tube on the Mossberg 500/Maverick 88 pumps, there is no easy way to add an extension.

A couple ways you could go:

1. Get the long magazine tube and the 20 inch barrel
2. Get the 590 magazine tube and barrel so you can add an extension

or get a side mount shell holder

Does any one have any experience with a coupon like this? Fine print only excludes licenses and gift cards, they normally exclude firearms, ammo and other items. I'm going to attempt to use this on the mossberg combo deal either way but wondering if this is going to cause any problems.

Huh ?

Are you talking about ejecting the shells? Both the 500 and 870 eject from the side.

I've seen these as low as 249 during normal sales over the last year.

Last black friday they were 219 or 229.

Came back from Big 5 and they honored the coupon on the shotgun combo; came out to $233.10, or $280.83 out the door.
