Default Big 5 Ammo Pricing. . . WTF Over?

So I decide to stop by my local Big5 here in Dublin to check and see if they have any ammo deals going on, lo and behold they have the awesome 100 rd valuepack 9mm Winchester White Box Range ammo! Im so happy to see those again I immediately start looking at how many they have because im going to buy them all!

Then I look at the price. . . . $32.99

wtf over? I call the manager over, and ask him if he can do a price check for me on them to insure that is the correct pricing, and he states, "well, ammo has gone up in price" but he does check, and that is indeed their pricing on it. I dont mind paying a little for it, but cmon now folks, that is rediculous!

Big 5 has never been a good place to buy ammo. Even their sale prices are lousy.

+1 on Wall Mart.. I just bought their supplies of 9mm and waiting for them to restock again... For those of you in SD that would be Wall Mart off of the 805 south after you pass Main Street in Chula vista... Can't reber the name of the exit though...

I like the way their "sale" prices change from week to week. For example: They had Mosin Nagants on sale at $79. A few days later, the same rifle was advertised at $89. And get this: you had to have the little cut out coupon to receive the sales price.

Shouldn't sale prices be going down, not up?

Yup, a big +1 on that. I know Alameda and COCO Countys don't have them, but if you drive 1/2 hour south to Milpitas, there's one a McCarthy Ranch just off of 237. That's where I get most of my ammo.

BTW, if you drive on down, let me know if you want to make a stop at TWM, always looking for an excuse to go to the range. Also, did you receive the CD OK?

+1 on Walmart.
I hate going in there, but the ammo prices keep me going in for more.
Too bad they don't carry .45 long colt.

Big 5 seemed to have decent sales prices when I started shooting 3+ years ago but not no more. $18.95 for a box of .38 specials - not. Wish the Walmarts around me still sold ammo. I try to stop at a Sportsman's Warehouse whenever I am near one.

The only ammo worth buying on sale at Big5 is .22LR. Wish we had a WalMart in the city.

Ammo prices keep going up, like gas prices... with no end in sight...

Wal-mart seems to be the last bastion of 'older' prices... They too will eventually be up there, albeit a bit slower than their competition...

Not available in Alameda and Contra Costa counties...

I tried to buy ammo with my neighbor for his .30/30 and .22lr at Turners. Cheapest ammo for it was around $24. We ended up going to Wal Mart for the .30/30 ammo and getting it for around $13 a box.

Turners and Big 5 are very high on most ammo.

Yeah, I really hate that Big 5 in Dublin. Have had the worst service there. I stopped goin there alltogether if I can help it. If I need some bulk .22lr ill go to the one in livermore when im headin out to LPRG to shoot.

Since I live in Alameda County, im also outta luck on the Walmart ammo. Im down south in the San Jose area often, so maybe ill try hittin up one of the ones you guys mentioned... Thanks for the input!

That Big-5 suffers from too much turn over in staffing. They forever have a now hiring sign at the door.

Start reloading, especially for those calibers.

I hardly ever shop at Walmart. The few times that I've been in there I didn't even know they HAD ammo. I figured they stopped selling it when they took out all the guns. They've got it hidden from view under the counter. It's almost like they're ashamed to be selling it. I felt like I was back in high school, asking the pharmacist for a 3-pack of jimmy's.

Not much of a selection, but the prices seemed to be better than Big 5.

Haha! funny to see this, I know what you mean I went into Big5 the other day on an ammo run, looked over the counter to see the ammo, saw the 100rnd white box .45acp, asked the price since they had none showing, he scanned it, $59

Woooow, I laughed and just left.

Think the only reason I'd go to Big5 anymore is to get a Mossberg special.

The local walmart I cleaned them of their Federal 00-buck. Saw 550rnds of .22LR is $11, so least thats staying low.

The whitebox 100rnd for .45 there is $39, so got one of that, then took what blazer they had left. 9mm 100rnd is $29. .357 Magnum $45..

Big 5 is a hit and miss. I popped in a couple weeks ago and saw that the big 250 round boxes of UMC 9mm were on sale. A REALLY good sale. When I brought 2000 rounds to the counter, the girl asked if I was going to shoot an elephant. I told her I'd probably need most of these if I did run across an elephant. ...And that ammo is like toilet paper. You might as well buy a lot when they price is good. You're going to use it eventually, and you certainly don't want to be without when you really need it.

I just hit up the one by Qualcomm off Aero drive....the ammo wasn't even locked up in a case like the one off Clairemont and you can just walk up and grab what you want!. Anyway...they had a plenty of ammo there with that great wal-mart price...

little off topic...for some reason a majority of the wal-marts here in SD..your car gets dented or a damn cart ends up by it! i swear i'll park far...and someone will park next to me (carts included)...the wal-mart off of the 54 is the worst i've seen...carts and boxes everywhere...

I always park far out away from other cars, its good to walk and keeps my SUV away from karts and bad parkers...

But there is always those times, and twice for me, where I park in the open in the end of a lot, and some minivan both times, parked next to me, instead of all the other open spaces, and these two times parked so close to me it was inches from my mirror and I could not get in my side.

so after struggling from my passenger side I figure, hey, they must not care about damage to there car, makes it all the more easier to hold out something to the side of their car as I back out

both times was a minivan, with the damn family stick figure decals on the back, a stick figure to represent each family member, WHY WHy, WHY, park out next to me...so close... and yes both times this happened was at a walmart...

anywho as said, they get an "oopsie" as I back out

little off topic...for some reason a majority of the wal-marts here in SD..your car gets dented or a damn cart ends up by it! i swear i'll park far...and someone will park next to me (carts included)...the wal-mart off of the 54 is the worst i've seen...carts and boxes everywhere...
Did they have plenty of 9mm 100 rounds value pack?
