I'll throw this one in here until I can get a new shot with the 74-style brake...

Anyone else's WASR all crooked when looking down the rifle from the butt? Guess I got some good Romanian workmanship. Installed the kvar black stock set on mine. Don't have pic yet.

Its really common to have the front sight canted. Just punch the front sight pins out, rotate the sight and then punch the front sight pins back in. Easy breezy!

I wish I could help you out, but it was just kind of a fluke that it worked out. I grabbed this brake in the "parts for sale" section here on Calguns for $10, just to see if I could get it to work. It *was* threaded with a single hex bolt to keep it secure, but I did not want to get into threading my WASR barrel. So, I had my dad bore out the threads about 1/16th of an inch and add a second hex bolt to it (he's good that way.) Now, it just slides over the end of the barrel and is secured by two, loctited hex bolts. I have shot about a hundred rounds through it so far and it's holding up just fine! I wouldn't do the same thing with a larger caliber rifle, but it's working fine for this little .22 - and it looks cool!

Wes, you probably wont find one brand new in California anymore and maybe any state for that matter. They arent being imported for the time being. If you find a used one be prepared to spend between 400-500 and that is if I dont buy it first. : )

You havent seen the new acquisition yet. A WASR 22 RPK. Less than 500 were ever imported. Already have the bipod and cleaning rod ring on order to make it look like a more authentic RPK.

And here are some updated pics of the PSL Paratrooper/WASR 22

Default WAR 22/Bulgy 74

I grabbed my WASR .22 out of ten day jail today. The wife and kids were gone, so I had some free time in the shop. I was going for a Bulgy 74 clone......but, in .22. I still have to mod the 74 rebuild kit to accept the .22 insert. What do you guys think?

Very nice. Did you do the magazine modification yourself?

Thanks for posting those up! Yes, I did the mag mod myself, well, me and my Porter Cable belt sander! I have the .22 insert in, I just need to function test it and see if it works.

That's great. I'm trying to do the same thing, but it's been hell trying to find an OD grean AK74 magazine to do the modification on to match my stock set.

It might be easier to swap the furniture to plum or black....than tracking down an OD green mag. I'll let you know if I ever see one.

I've got way too many black AK's.

I do have a set of plum furniture on the way, but it's destined for my AK 105 clone.

Not my rifle.

The sad part is I just got a plum AK 74 magazine rebuild kit too, and I will have to hack it up to make an F'in 10 rounder. Gorgeous Russian mag too.

I just finished a mag modification for my PSL 22 as well. They work great! The pictures show before and after.

Below is my next project. I just picked up an AKT-98 RPK Long barreled (KK-95) for a really good price and have already picked up an RPK bipod and front sight to install. I am currently on the lookout for a 40 round mag for authenticity. (Bipod is just mocked up in the pic and hasnt been installed yet)

They are scarce aatruong, you just have to be on the lookout. They are no longer being imported into the country so the price on them has been going up like crazy lately. If you find one under $400 then you are getting a great deal right now.

I know this is an old thread...I just got 2 from Century, "fix em" specials for $99 each. Both have nothing wrong, except they are both missing the pistol grip, grip nut and grip bolt. They were advertsied as "possibly missing bolt, bolt carrier, firing pin or other small parts.". I gambled and scored. Now, who can direct me on this "magazine conversion" I keep seeing???

Thanks

just jail broke my (what i think is a wasr 22 ), its a cuigir Romanian made imported by m&m. they call it the m-10-22. im assuming this is in relation to thw wasr 10 and the fact that its a 22lr. anyways...

seems like it will be a good gun. the shooting comes tomorrow so i can update. but im told the barrel is threaded too all though i cant get the d#mn thing off... anyone have any ideas?

update:

after seeing what the gun can do, iv determined the works great!
after slight adjustments to the sights for my velocity ammo i was able to hit about 4" size groups at 100 yds with the iron sights. im excited to see what she can do for me with a scope on her. (or red dot)

cool features:

there are many cool little things about this particular gun.
1st as you all know its cool to have a full size ak just in 22!
2nd my gun came with a side rail which will make scope mounting (or dot) easy.
3rd my gun came with rpk rear sight (which included windage)
4th i do like the gas sight block combo. with a fake can over the barrel shell probably look closer to the 104 style ak.

but the guns a shooter. hits what you point it at but all in the fun 22lr. im loving it alot!

most updated config:

put on what plastics i had and tossed on one of my stockBlocks and a fake suppressor. eh its getting there. my end goal is a tac'd out 105 style.
what do you guys think?

FYI, no one is buying the newest style because they are priced so expensive. I bought my first WASR22 for $219 and just 6 months before that they were only $199. The current price is way out of line

well to each their own i guess. we obviously differ on our ideas about guns. and i dont think mr. K ever thought they would make a 22 version of his gun. so really were all heretics for owning one if you take that mentality.

and i also dont think he intended for optics to sit ontop of his gun. so the cheek weld is poor for a tall scope. thats the issue i was trying to get past with my designs. im more about aggressive and quick target accusation (accurately) at all distances. so if i have to change stuff to hit a fast moving target at 100 yds, i do.
(working at an AR manufacturer just leads to very cheap and abundant parts to tinker with)

and yes the price is higher but that happens with more strict import laws... thank you 2005 atf reg's

1+ for these guns!
