Default Sony PS3 class action suit.

"If you bought a Playstation® 3 console between November 1, 2006, and April 1, 2010, this class action settlement may affect your rights...If you are a Class Member, you can receive up to $65 "

http://www.otherossettlement.com/

I would check around online to verify the website is legitimate and not just phishing for your financial details.

The lawsuit is real. I’ve received mail correspondence notifying me of it.

"You are a Class Member if you purchased a Fat PS3 in the United States between November 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010[.]"

So, the newer slim consoles don't count, I presume?

No they don’t. Only the oginal fat body ones. I happen to have a launch day model. Still works. Only ever used it for Blu-ray movies. At the time Blu-ray players were $1000 and the ps3 was $600. Made sense to get the ps3.

The lawsuit revolves around Sony’s decision to pull the other os option (linux) in one of their updates. If you used this functionality or wanted to use it then Sony took away something you paid for. I still like PlayStation and Sony, but I signed up to get the $65. I’m probably one of the few people who actually did install yellow dog Linux on my ps3.

Yup. Another lawsuit worthy thing they took away that they advertised when it launched was PS2 game compatibility. That went away with a software update also.

My PS3 fat plays PS2 games. Never getting rid of it.

I can play PS 1,2 & 3 games. 4 USB ports, Card reader, blu-ray. Never had a chance to do the linux or HDD upgrade. I just use one of the usb ports and connect my 2TB portable HD.

Did you stop updating the firmware? Mine stopped playing ps2 games a few years back with a update they released.

Not sure that’s considered an upgrade bud. Lol the slim was a cheaper version of the fat model.

I got the same email but I don't have the serial number to my original fat PS3. I sold it to an old roommate I don't keep in touch with anymore. I would love to fill out the form but without serial number it appears I cannot. Damn.

Need the serial number or proof of purchase, does anybody keep that kind of information about an old game system?

I've been modifying consoles (ps1, ps2, gamecube, xbox, 360, ps3, gamecube) for several years with modchips, tsop's, hdd upgrades, etc.

The ps3 has a new exploit that anybody can run and install rebug. There's one coming for the ps4 very soon. Check eurasia.nu for more info. I don't work on the ps3 anymore because I don't do softmods, only hardware.

If anybody wants their old console fitted with a modchip, I have a business card and everything (Contact info blurred due to no-spam policy)

About 7 years of experience, I also sell on ebay. You can find me north of disneyland and yes I do take trades.

That site is in fact real. Break down the site name and you get OTHER OS SETTLEMENT which is the name of the case: Sony PS3 “Other OS” Litigation.

I replaced the BluRay drive twice in mine before I swapped for a PS4. Wonder if I can get in on this.

How did $65 get turned into such a small amount? I still have my FAT system but didn't get entered into this suit on time, now I am glad I didn't waste my time for ten bucks. Its like my google tv they keep making less and less functional. Where's the google lawsuit, This tv cost way more then my playstation and almost all the features don't work anymore.

Payout is the result of whatever was left after the lawyers took the lions share. Class actions frequently pay diddly.

Class actions almost always have a 'estimated payment' they normally aren't a set in stone amount. The higher the number of claims, the lower the payout.

Not true. There are settlement dollars set aside that have to be split by the number or claims. Lower claims, higher checks.
I filed a claim with a expected payout of under $10 for some 'healthy' cereal. Very few claims were filed so the payout was nearly $400.

Got my check too, a whopping 10.07.

According to Gearnuke:
"The total settlement made was for $3.75 million, with $400,000 going to attorneys, $3,500 going to fix plaintiffs and the rest to people who filed claims."
https://gearnuke.com/sony-sending-10...er-os-lawsuit/

There must have been a hell of alot of claims to only get $10.07

Rough math says 332k claims. Not a shocker when it was easy enough to simply google a serial # and input the info.
