Go into Kings Canyon until the road ends. Camp at Cedar Grove. It's beautiful down there.

Bring chains this time of year. It's common to be down in the valley and get snow on the road out. I've been snowed in at Lodgepole campground in May.

Better yet, check out Mineral King. It's annexed to the south of Sequoia NP. The drive takes commitment, however well worth it. Be bear wise if you camp. Lots of excellent trails. Farewell Gap and Timber Gap are great day hikes. Sawtooth is a doable day hike during the long days of summer if you hit the trail before daybreak. Lots of fishing options.

MK road is closed for the winter. Get stuck back there and you will be hurting. It's a tiny road and takes all day when weather is good.
