Default Has the Colt LE6940p been discontinued?

I can't seem to find one that's actually for sale on-line. This is the most recent Colt piston-powered AR rifle.

I am a direct distributor for Colt and according to my price list I can not order more of them

Best bet is find a dealer who has old inventory

Colt is in deep trouble. I am glad I bought when I did.

I wonder if Colt decided to discontinue it considering the compliant FN models are out? If they'd release a model with a 14.5" pinned HBAR it might be more compelling.

Quite frankly I don't think Colt has any idea what the Civilian market wants. Their offerings so limited compared to everyone else on the market. With that said, I do want a LE6940P upper and chop it to 10.5" and throw it on a pistol lower.

Yeah, agreed. When I was looking at a Block 1.5/PR clone build I tallied up what it would take to go all Colt. I would have had to either buy a 6920 and tear the upper apart or build it up from retail Colt parts. Both of them seemed like a silly premium even for a nerd like myself considering BCM makes short runs of SOCOM uppers now and then.

The cost and labor wasn't in the gun itself, it was the necessity of swapping a ton of stuff right off the bat. Why not just put out proper SOCOM builds? Folks who don't care will still buy them and the nerds will be happy.

Oh, and to the OP: Buy an FN model, they're almost identical in retail form and you'll get a better fit and finish than the Colt guns for not much more money.
Edit: I'm a doofus and missed the "p" in the OP's post.

I think Colt is the only one that does a piston rifle with a monolithic upper and flip up front sight block.

The piston guns were not very popular commercially or with government agencies, we barely sold any and never had any agencies that wanted them.

The piston driven rifle was never really a popular weapon, Colt made the 703 years ago and that is basically what HK based their 416 off

As far as Colt, I would like an SBR modded by Specialized Armament. But since I live in Cali, no chance.

Colt isn't going anywhere as a company, that you don't have to worry about

You're going to chop the op rod and spring and engineer the gas system while you're at it?

Problem is, there may not be a company there in the next 5-10 years.

My first AR was a 6940. The fit and finish of the Piston Carbine was significantly nicer than that of the regular 6940. They added the button to the front sight, incorporated a solid tomb-stone piston block and anti-tilt skids to the BCG, no play between upper and lower. The unit really feels like they paid attention to detail. The piston system is different, and I'm not sure how much better than other systems. I've never seen this rifle go through a torture test.
Torture test? When I was at the SOF convention many years ago SIG was demoing the 550. Everyone shoots for free. They were trying to sell it to LE in the U.S. They brought 20k rounds and it all got burned through one 550, mostly on full auto, in 3 days.

Colt is bankrupt. I wanted a 6940 but with the custom upper receiver good luck finding a replacement if it ever gets damaged. Too many better piston ARs/556s out there, colt couldn't compete.

HK MR556 and never looked back. Well, there's also the SCAR 16, ACR, and I had a SIG 516 and that was a great rifle too.

$212MM for a company that owes $350MM - you are still in the hole. And that contract is split with FN.

Here are some articles about it. Looks like Colt hasn't been taken off life support just yet:

There is enough barrel in front of the gas system so even if I bring the barrel down to 10.5" there is no need to do anything to the gas system. Take a look at this SBR and you can see what I am talking about.

So what op rod am I chopping? What gas system am I re-engineering?

Honestly I would explore the Aero COP platform. It has the same looks but it actually offers a bit more flexibility since you can replace the side panels. It's reasonably priced around $300-$400 so even after you add all the other parts it won't break your bank.

I do want a Colt though, just because it's Colt.

Another piston option w monolithic rail would be a LMT MRP 5.56. I bought a new LMT CQB MRP few years ago (or whatever the correct name is- comes in both DGI and piston). I opted for the DGI version but w LMT I'm assuming the piston model is gtg. Great ARs. When I bought it at LGS the sales guy couldn't believe I wasn't opting for the piston upper model, I'm sure it's great, I just already have ton of spare DGI parts so I stick w them.

As far as the LMT vs Colt, can't comment cause never handled or shot the Colt P version.

Not trying to be a jackass, but why doesn't Arms Unlimited sell to the Public?
You have LE6940's in stock. Just want to know.

Not exactly a torture test, but the most comprehensive one I've seen of this rare(r) gun.
