Shot my "custom" $90.00 Swedish Mauser sporter yesterday. Love the 6.5x55 cartridge.

scope was a old 3x to 9x Burris wide view scope I got for free.

A five shot group at under an inch and a sixth shot flier which was all on me. Not bad for 60 year old eyes at 100 yards.

I wish I had kept that rifle. It was a 1900 year. Great shooter

Thumbs up Lands and grooves.

So I checked the OAL with a gauge. Something I should have done right after I got the rifle from the Smith. It measured 3.055. I had loaded all my loads to 3.035. I was close. But now I will load them to 3.045 and up the powder from 43.5 to 44.5 for the 140gr. I have 123gr bullets coming and will try a new load for them. Yesterday I took 140gr CC Nosler's loaded to 44.5 that I had done in 2011. Out of ten shots I had 9-X's and 1-5 ( don't ask ) five of the X's were touching each other at 200 yards. If the kid ever comes over again I'll post that picture.

Question Nosler 123gr CC

Well loaded up some of these. I was not overly impressed with the results. I will continue until all 250 are gone. It does look like the 140gr with 44.5gr of IMR 4350 is the winner.

Took it out yesterday to set scope at 50 yards. Due to surgery on my face( Wed.) I was only able to get off 8 shots. The last two were on top of each other at the very cross hairs of the target. After I have healed I will set it at 200 yards. The load I used was 43.5 of H4350. OAL was 3.025 using Hornady brass. I use a Forester seating die so everything is the same.
I also noticed that the primers were pristine and showed no signs of pressure after firing.

This picture is of my Rem 700 in 6.5 X 55. Also there is a target picture from 200 yards which was shot after my Cataract surgery on July 18th
Total cost with gunsmithing $4,823.00
How much of that cost is the scope?

Smile My Build in 6.5X55

Took her out yesterday. The 43.5 gr Noslers shot real good, but will still raise powder to 44.5gr from now on.

How can any old obsolete caliber such as a 6.5X55 or 8mm or 7x57 or the long forgotten 7.65x53 be any good any more? It is not like these are Magnums. My Grandpa shot these calibers a thousand freaking years ago.

Next thing you know some old dude is going to start telling me how great a 308 or 30.06 is. Hello! If this stuff isn't Tactical then the bullets will just bounce of a wet cardboard target at 100 yards. Spam Can Mosin Ammo, Oh Please. Spare me the details.

In 1978, a Korea War Veteran, who was master machinist working at one of Sunnyvale's U.S. Defense Contractors, the same people making ICBMs, explained Ballistic Coefficient to me and the attributes of the 6.5 x55mm rifle cartridge. Glad to see everyone else catching up.

Thumbs up Jewel Trigger

Had to update the trigger $250. Ever notice how when you buy something for your rifle it always costs $250?? The Jewel is night and day over the Timney that came with the rifle. I adjusted the Timney to it's lowest point and still it seemed abrupt when it released. Now it is smooth at 1 1/2 lbs.

The difference between the two is in how they release.
The jewel rolls off while the timney is crisp.

I prefer a crisp trigger with really short travel.
It sounds like you prefer a mushy trigger with more creep.

Thumbs up Sighted in at 1,000 yards

So we took another one of our trips to Yuma Arizona. I use to be the President of the club there. The boys pulled targets for me and I sighted in my Rem 700 in 6.5 X 55 from 300 out to 1,000 yards. It took us an hour to accomplish. We started at 5:30 AM as it was 90* by 8:30. The 5 X 22 X 56 nightforce scope at a 1,000 yards looked like I was shooting at 300. We used a 200 yard SR target for the whole process. I was very happy with the results

I love the Swedish Mauser. In the early 2000's I used to hunt with a CZ 550, with a montecarlo stock. Most loads gave me .75"/100 yards. it killed deer easily. It was heavy though, so I sold it to my friend.

Now I just have a precision version that shoots one hole groups, which helps me bang steel out to 1,240 yards with a 140 or 147 grain bullet over 45 grains of Re22. Also a Tika stainless lightweight. I haven't used the Tika yet, but plan to.

That’s also the first thing I thought when I read his post. I thought an abrupt break is supposed to be a good thing. It is for me at least.
