F.agundes in Manteca is a great place. If you are interested in learning and watching what they do they will take you back so you can watch/help on your harvested bounty.

The original list was put together by contributors to Jesse's site and was emailed to me without credit for all the work that they did.

Pomona food locker is already listed but just wanted to give some additional info. This place is the only place in my area which will take game that hasn't been skinned out. Just came back from an elk hunt in Montana last week where my father and I both shot elk. Since we didn't want to ship all that meat from a processor in Montana we just drove all the way back home non stop with the quartered elk in the bed of the truck on dry ice. Called my normal processor and he said he couldn't take it with the hide on. Called a few others, same thing. Pomona food locker said no problem and only charges a nominal fee. Just FYI.

Wouldn't recommend dick and sherries.
2 or 3 seasons now I brought in over 100 lbs of boned out elk meat. Dicks health has turned and had his helper do it.
When I came to pick it up, I had all of it turned to burger. Even though I specified to the helper I want my steaks 1" not 3/4" .
I was not happy. Actually getting mad writing this.
Came home and weighted it, almost 20 lbs short.
Called up, somehow they missed one bag with my stuff,
No thank you.
Got a nother elk hunt coming up this year in November. Who do you guys recommend down south in the desert/ Palm Springs area? I don't mind drving an hour out
Thanks

FishnHunt

I've taken two elks to Hottingers Family Meat Market in Chino, CA. I've been pleased with their service. Butcher paper wrapped and labeled cuts. Each elk was quartered on bone when I dropped em off.

I use a local butcher now (2 blocks away.) If Hottingers wasn't so far away from me, I'd still be using them.

Bruce's Prime Cuts .... 115 E. College Ave, Ste 10, Lompoc, Ca. PH# 805-736-6328

Bruce sold It a few years ago, and new owner does not do It.

But If you know someone at the prison and kick down a little meat, they might do It. Just what I have heard.

Does anyone know if Durham Meat Co. is still doing meat processing???

I plan on hunting in the next month or so and I'm doing my due diligence on getting all the research and intelligence gathering before I got to FHL.

Specialty Meats in Escondido. Most full service processor you will find in San Diego county.

1945 E. El Norte Pkwy
Escondido CA 92027
760-839-6850

They've been doing my home grown live stock (cows and pigs) and wild game for years.

Good choice as is Bishers in Ramona for the San Diego area. Jim in El Cajon retired and the outfit that bought his gear needs to take customer service/econ classes or they won't last long.

Got a buddy in Pacifica who is just getting up and running. Long time butcher for Whole Foods and is starting side business. Brought him a 175lb hog last week and made quick work out of it.

Pm if you want me to pass your info along to him. Not sure he is open to cold calls just yet

I just got meat back from the butcher in Pacifica and I have to say it's the best sausage I ever gotten from anyone and also at a great price. Quick turn around. Recommend butcher!

Decades ago Granddad told me the Butcher always takes his cut and does a quick job.

I've learned to do it myself and I end up with more meat. Trimmings I take to a butcher who will make it into sausage. Pheasants I smoke myself.
