You should post pictures. We need to know if it's all original, refinished, cut down, etc.

I really can't see any clear detail.

Run this search on Gunbroker.com http://www.gunbroker.com/All/Complet...rame=14&Sort=9

Find rifles in similar condition to yours at look at the sale prices. Make sure you check page 5 of the search results in addition to page 1.

$200 - $300 tops. The gun looks beat. I have one from the early century that's in better shape and has more history. I paid $400.00

You need to take pictures of the receiver sides. That being said I have seen these go for as much as $700 and as low as $400.

Better pictures would really help and the value could be set closer based on the overall condition.

I think you guys are pricing it a bit low. I mean, it is not a pristine example. But it should reasonably sell for between $400-600. Probably towards the lower end of that. But still more than the $300 range you guys are quoting. I know that is likely what YOU would be willing to pay. But if it were in a store, or offered on Gunbroker, I think my guess is closer to correct.

$200 is a fair price for me to pay for it as a parts gun. $600 is a fair price for me to sell a working gun with a nice patina (bluing gone and replaced with browning done by age not chemical).

Default Thanks Everyone

The gun shoots well and is in pretty good shape for the age. I take horrible pictures and it is not mint quality. One of my friends liked it and wanted to trade for something but neither of us knew what it was worth. It was my first deer hunting rifle back in the day. i wasn't sure to part with it or not so i was just kinda feeling around a bit. I went on gunbroker also and thought monkey was also in the ballpark for what i saw with the pictures online vs my gun.

It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Nothing else really matters. If both of you like the trade, then go for it. If you want to go by "book value" that's fine as long as both of you agree on it.

Okay, here is the thing. If you look around on here, you will find thousands of stories about people lamenting trading or selling guns that were their "first" this, that, or the other thing. And they regret not being able to pass them on to their kids. If this was your first hunting rifle, do yourself and your kids a favor, and hang on to it. Ultimately $400-600 isn't a lot of money in the big scheme of things. But your first hunting rifle is a one and only kind of thing. Once it is gone, your chances of ever getting it back are between slim and none. And you end up a few years down the road as yet another person posting about "I traded my... and I really regret it now."

I sold two rifles 45 years ago, and have regretted it ever since. And they were not even my first guns!

Agree. Pre-64 examples have been skewing higher lately. I've seen plain-Jane models like this, in this condition, closing between $500 and $600 lately.
