Both. The one I bought from, Champions Choice, is a little niche shop which has a physical store as well a healthy online sales, mostly to bullseye/olympic event shooters. $300 including shipping for a case of CCI paperbox. They didn't even bother to update their site since it sold so fast. Champion Shooters Supply is another place.

So ammoseek and gunbot are useful, but not perfect.

I'm just going by the prices currently marked on the shelves at Walmart, and the prices the ammo is actually selling for when batches get stocked on the shelves. The prices people buy ammo for every week right now on YOUTUBE around the country (they even show you the receipts with time and date). I don't show up there at 7am so I rarely get any ammo at Walmart. I do use the Website hack and monitor local stores showing stock coming and going for items like CCI Mini-Mags, Win 555, American Eagle, Thunderbolts, Golden Bullets, etc... they do come in and sell out fast. The prices are cheaper than the best online prices.

The prices have been steadily going up forever. It doesn't take a country-wide shortage - but Assault Weapons Bans help.

I used to pay .89 a box for singles of Federal Lightning or whatever, and $10-$11 for 550 pack Federal Bulk. It isn't $11 anymore because the price has been coming up all these years, each and every year. I realize that. I don't expect $11 bulk - it is closer to $19 now.

The shelf price at Walmart in my area is less than $19 for Federal bulk, and that is what they sell it for when they get some in (.0345 for a 550 pack, .036 for a 525 pack, .04 exactly for Rem 525 packs). Winchester is about .035 per round in the 555 pack at the current Walmart price).

Current prices will rise as they always have, but I'll be buying the sub .04 bulk rounds as soon as they get some in and I will still be buying it at over .10 when that price becomes the norm. It is just good fun bargain hunting as much as possible.

In related news, my 1000 rounds of high dollar cardboard snack can tube German SK Magazine was delivered today. .096 per round! OUCH!

Great score.

That's a typical Walmart everyday price today.

Compare that to one of my Cabela's orders which was for one 525 pack of Golden Bullets @23.99 + $5.95 postage= $29.94 delivered

^^^^^
How did you guys manage to add 1000rds of CCI to your cart? My Max limit was 500. Just got my order of 500 CCI SV from Ganders a few days ago, my first time with them. They are great, they even double up on my 12GA military buckshot for free/accident?

Looks like they got more CCI SV in stock.
https://secure.gandermountain.com/mo...ct/details.cgi

I would place another order but I bought a new Colt series 70 1911 and way too much ammo within the last month.. Time to chill for a week or so =)

They had a limit on mini mags recently that was 10 boxes of 100 each = 1000.

It's getting to be like gas prices. A run up, then a slight easing, then another run up, then more slight easing, but never to the same price it was before the first run up. Always ultimately going up, never returning to where it was originally.....

This might not be the right forum, but since we are talking ammo, I found this very helpful.

6 boxes of remington UMC .38 special for $21 per box at Walmart Laguna Niguel. . . sales guy let me have four of them and said "let's save two boxes for the next guy" and I said - "good deal, thank you"

then I bought 200 shells of 12 gauge and a buncha other stuff.

then I asked the guy if they had an .22lr and he said they got some in but it wasn't put out. so I said, how many boxes and he said like 15 or 20. . So I said can I have 2 and he went back and brought out 5 of the 525 Federals and I bought them all.

Wow! You found ammo at Wal-Mart and got some without incident. That's a good score! BTW how much were the 22 bulk packs?

I'm south of the big city I live in, and am hoping to score some ammo from Walmart tomorrow morning. I'll be there before 8, they had a sign posted stated ammunition would be sold at 8am. I'm hoping that in a much less populated city my chances of actually seeing some ammo increases. Here's to rolling the dice. I'll report back if I'm successful.

5 box limit. Ground shipping was 7 bucks.

I'm pretty sure when this company ordered ammo they said "just send anything ya got!".....

and CCI took that quite literally.

Ok so Walmart had nothing for me but I did manage to snag 3 boxes of Win Super X lead free at Big 5 for 12.99 each, ouch! I just didn't want to come away empty handed. Did place an order with palmetto, mirroring RickyRay's order. Thanks!

Is there a rule of thumb to know if 22lr will cycle in a 10/22. Do you look at velocity?

Well... sort of. There's stuff like CCI Quiet that's clearly labeled as unlikely to cycle any semi auto. Then the next fastest is that most match ammo is subsonic (1050 fps is typical, speed of sound's around 1080), and any semi auto rifle pretty much has to run that or people would be cranky.

That being said when you first get it and the rifle's being broken in, you'll most likely be happier with 40gr 1200+ fps ammo. CCI Mini Mag or equivalent. Try it both with a lot of lube and just a little lube and see what yours likes.

Once you have around 500 rounds through it clean it and try shooting groups with some different types and see what your particular rifle is most accurate with.

Velocity And grain weight factor into whether or not a particular round will cycle a .22 semi-auto. 22's have a very broad range of rounds available .. even a greater range than a 45-70 Govt. or .458 SLOCOM. However, the rifle manufacturers have to design for the heavier rounds, so that the blowback action can be counter acted. A bolt crashing through the back of the receiver would make for a very bad day and possibly even lethal.

This is done by calculating the Bolt Mass primarily .. cocking the hammer and compressing the return spring are secondary. You could probably modify an existing bolt system to cycle an Aguila 20 grain Super Colibre, but that would be inadequate to handle the higher power rounds safety. Even in AR systems, there are 3 different BCG weights (Mass) as well as choices in buffer weight and springs, even though not a blowback system. .22s do not lend themselves to such an easy and elegant access to make such changes easily.

This is really more science than art, and this may be TMI for you .. but if you are interested, here is a Most Excellent treatise on actually calculating bolt mass for blowback systems .. in case you wanna DIY

Found a brick of Gemtech Silencer Subsonic 22LR today at local gun store. $45. Great ammo. Shot well in 10/22. Last brick though!

Anywhere from 1 business day to over a week. The few times I've ordered ammo from PSA, the processing time was ~5 days and add in the 5 to 7 day transit time. Heard they are much faster now.

When I placed my order for ammo yesterday it said that most orders take at least 5 day's before it ships. If your ordering a firearm or upper it can be up to 15 day's before it ships.
